About The Position

Huhtamaki is a key global provider of sustainable packaging solutions, aiming to make all packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable. The North America Business segment is a leading manufacturer of consumer goods packaging and tableware, cups, folding cartons, containers, trays, and service ware for the foodservice industry and retail markets. This role is for a Production Supervisor in Fulton, NY, who will think creatively to make the business and its customers more effective and successful, always looking for new ways of working and making a difference to major brands by helping great products reach more people. The Production Supervisor will direct manufacturing shift operations, manage the utilization of equipment, facilities, and personnel to achieve maximum efficiency and meet or exceed performance objectives. The role involves driving the individual shift to identify and meet or exceed all plant-level and departmental KPIs, including Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Cost Savings initiatives. The supervisor ensures plant goals and objectives are achieved by managing performance in assigned areas, focusing on 5S, quality, safety, uptime, cost control, and schedule attainment. A key aspect of the role is developing and building a successful shift team through training, succession planning, and employee assessments, as well as developing, implementing, and training the team on standardized departmental practices and procedures, including Best Demonstrated Practices.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of manufacturing – production schedules, overtime procedures.
  • Strong PC skills – including Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Familiarity with HALO, BPCS.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong ability to problem-solve.
  • Good people skills.
  • Strong communication skills – both verbal and electronic.
  • Familiarity with all Company procedures, past practices, and the current CBA.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude.
  • High School diploma.
  • 3-5 years of progressive responsibility and experience with high volume manufacturing environments.
  • Proven track record of success managing a multi-process or departmental production group.

Nice To Haves

  • College diploma is desirable.
  • 5-10 years of experience supervising a manufacturing group is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Improve safety recordable rate through heightened awareness, safety audits and improvements in housekeeping, with the ultimate goal of zero recordable and lost time injuries.
  • Achieve OEE budget for the department by managing the effective utilization of equipment and personnel to maximize efficiency.
  • Manage the Departmental budget through daily review of production numbers, weekly and monthly departmental reviews, and daily cost control measures.
  • Direct Departmental improvement activities by building cost reduction initiatives, capital project plans, and improvement activities.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement through relentless focus on corrective, and more importantly, preventive actions and building this philosophy throughout the organization.
  • Improve end product quality on a cost basis and by meeting or exceeding customer expectations through continuous improvement, process improvements, SPC, and improved quality systems.
  • Develop an effective team by setting clear goals and objectives, providing tools to succeed, and granting responsibility and authority to make decisions.
  • Hold safety meetings and team meetings as needed.
  • Troubleshoot machine issues and quality forming defects.
  • Manage employee poor work performance, including rule violations, excessive absenteeism, and fitness for duty status.
