About The Position

Under the general direction of the Fabrication Manager, the Superintendent will assist in the supervision, coordination and scheduling of fabrication activities on the shop floor in compliance with the contract and the job cost estimate and ensures all the work is completed safely to acceptable standards of quality and workmanship.

Requirements

• Education to include a technical college diploma or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
• Minimum 5 years of metal fabrication/ manufacturing and subcontractor supervision experience in a unionized environment
• Ability to successfully supervise metal fabrication shop floor
• Knowledge of all aspects of metal fabrication such as; technology, equipment, methods, trade agreements and jurisdiction, engineering, cost control, scheduling and safety requirements
• Good communication, organizational and supervisory skills are essential
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Ability to read and understand Cost Reports
• Basic presentation skills
• Leadership experience. This is a vital role in the organization and leading of the project plans

Responsibilities

• Maintain excellent relationships with clients, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and public
• Responsible to ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in compliance with safety, quality and human performance policies
• Implement Joint Venture and Client policies and project procedures as required
• Assist in developing, monitoring and updating of project schedule with the Fabrication Manager. Ensure subcontractors comply with project master schedule
• Utilize project master schedule to help create detailed look ahead schedules with the supervisors and subcontractors
• Assist in developing recovery strategies when project schedule or budget are in jeopardy
• Plan, supervise and approve the work of own forces and subcontractors on the project including determining methods of fabrication, manpower levels, materials, tools & equipment, rentals and work schedules
• Assume responsibility for productivity of trades and subcontractors, efficient use of materials and equipment and contractual performance of the project
• Ensure trades personnel complete all necessary training in areas of safety, quality assurance, technical qualifications, equipment operation and owner specified requirements
• Ensure fabrication projects are complete in compliance with drawings, specifications, travelers, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and project schedule and budget
• Interface with client representatives, design engineers, consultants, other contractors, etc.
• Ensure the work is carried out in accordance with QA Programs and project quality guidelines
• Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, training records, T&E and rental records, manpower reports, owner support requests, traveler documents, etc.
• Participate in layout and preparation of work instructions, field engineering activities, etc.
• Stand in as nominated delegate for Fabrication Manager when required
• Direct General Forepersons, Forepersons, hourly trades and subcontractors in the execution of their assigned duties
• Maintain discipline and implement procedures where necessary
• Work closely with EHS teams to enforce project-specific safety programs and maintain Aecon’s strong safety culture
• Coordinate subcontractors, union trades, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient execution of work
• Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving activities related to fabrication(s), system integrity, and constructability challenges
