About The Position

The Production Supervisor will supervise, direct, and control assigned department operations within the required framework of schedules, cost control, and quality standards. This role involves leading by example, fostering a team-based performance culture, and ensuring a safe and high-quality production environment. The supervisor will be responsible for achieving production output goals, managing personnel, coordinating with support departments, and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements

  • Read, write, and speak English.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of sewing machines and other equipment in the department.
  • Computer literate.
  • Proven ability to work with and direct employees in order to provide proper leadership.
  • 3 to 4 years prior experience in a sewing operation.
  • Experience as a lead person or previous supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and controls assigned department operations within the required framework of schedules, cost control, and quality standards.
  • Leads by example, treats all employees with respect, and demonstrates excellent communication/facilitation skills.
  • Conducts "Toolbox" training sessions.
  • Develops and maintains a team-based performance culture that strives to achieve daily Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost/Productivity goals.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen, 5S, visual management, standard work, error proofing, one piece flow, Kanban, and Total Productive Maintenance.
  • Maintains a safe environment for operators where safety rules are followed, and injuries are minimized.
  • Maintains a "zero defects" quality culture where operators understand their responsibility to produce a quality product; ensures operators stop and fix defects when identified; implements root cause solutions to prevent recurring defects.
  • Achieves daily production output goals by following the schedule, managing labor, and solving problems/issues that may limit output.
  • Responsible for personnel staffing needs to ensure that work is produced in a prescribed time frame in accordance with company standards.
  • Encourages and manages cross-training of team members and maintains a training matrix for all employees.
  • Executes cycle counts to maintain and improve inventory accuracy and orders materials for production as needed.
  • Assists in the training, development, motivation, disciplinary action, and discharge of employees.
  • Coordinates activities with all production support departments to ensure a smooth flow in the manufacturing process.
  • Keeps attendance records and training records on each employee.
  • Ensures the team complies with all company policies (i.e., attendance, safety, security, housekeeping, etc.).
  • Provides constructive feedback to employees to improve performance and addresses infractions in a professional and timely manner; documents and maintains employee personnel documentation as needed.
  • Partners with operators, peers, and teams to provide training, coaching, and problem-solving.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost/productivity/labor performance.
  • Accounts for all payroll and labor charges on the production management system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Acts as a liaison between employee and Human Resources with regard to personnel issues, benefits, payroll, and incentives.
  • Works in the production area when time allows or when necessary to get work done on schedule.
  • Prepares Performance Appraisals.
