About The Position

Airgas is hiring for a Production Supervisor in Troy, Michigan. This role involves organizing cylinder filling operations to minimize handling and ensure customer requirements are met. The position contributes to filling operations, monitors parameters, performs tests, and ensures production quality and quantity. The supervisor also builds alignment in emergency situations, initiates safety procedures, and keeps management informed. They organize primary and secondary cylinder handling, including truck loading and forklift activity. The role pioneers operations compliance to safety procedures, supports the team in using protective equipment, and ensures quality procedures are followed. The Production Supervisor maintains operations documentation, enters daily production data, tracks production events, prepares incident reports, and collaborates with technical documentation. They also contribute to process improvement by identifying opportunities for enhancement and proposing changes to advance safety or productivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, operations, etc. required.
  • 1+ years of experience or equivalent as a new engineer
  • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Organize the cylinder filling to minimize cylinder handling.
  • Fill the cylinder on stock before out-off.
  • Fill the cylinder to cover customer requirements after out-off.
  • Monitor filling start-up and stop in a safe manner, follow the procedure, and support the coordination of parameters.
  • Perform connection and disconnection of cylinders, careful operation of valves needed to fill cylinders or bundles with the right content.
  • Conduct vital contributing tasks like analysis, batch numbering, label application, and maintaining documentation for traceability.
  • Monitor parameters, perform tests, and check physical data to advance production in quality and quantity.
  • Support corrective operations when parameters are not optimized.
  • Build alignment during the first response in emergency situations and initiate safety procedures.
  • Keep the management informed to foster understanding of any safety and/or activity issues.
  • Organize primary & secondary cylinder handling operations by performing operations according to plan for the empty cylinders, the organized flow of the trucks, the selection (sorting) of the cylinders, the review of the test date and the overall aspect of the cylinder, and the positioning in the empty buffer zone waiting for filling.
  • Prepare cylinders according to customer’s orders, move cylinders from the full buffer zone or from the full stock, and coordinate the truck loading.
  • Perform all forklift activity linked to secondary distribution.
  • Pioneer operations compliance to safety procedures, in particular for lock-out and confined spaces.
  • Support the team in the consistent use of protective equipment.
  • Ensure that quality procedures for process and for final product analysis are supported in the day-to-day.
  • Contribute to the completion of analytic plans.
  • Maintain the operations book and administrative documentation.
  • Enter daily production data in the system.
  • Ensure the tracking of production events.
  • Prepare and communicate incident reports.
  • Collaborate with Standard Operating Procedures, P&ID's, PFD's, and all other technical documentation as related to plant-specific equipment.
  • Contribute to process improvement by identifying opportunities for procedure enhancement from incident analysis, recognizing potential risks, and proposing changes that advance Safety or productivity.
