About The Position

The Shop Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day leadership of the production floor across turning, vertical milling, and horizontal milling. This role reports to the Shop Foreman and is accountable for executing the production schedule, assigning work, maintaining ERP accuracy, and leading the shop floor team. This is not a working supervisor role; the focus is on people leadership, schedule execution, and technical problem resolution. The Shop Supervisor serves as the first line of technical authority on the floor and ensures work flows safely, on time, and to quality standards.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a CNC machining environment with knowledge of turning and milling operations
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role within manufacturing
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems including production transactions and scheduling
  • Proven technical troubleshooting ability across machining processes
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage production schedules and competing priorities
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and understanding GD&T
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Responsibilities

  • Own daily and weekly production scheduling across all machining departments
  • Assign work based on priority, machine availability, and operator capability
  • Monitor work in process and adjust sequencing to remove bottlenecks and protect delivery
  • Ensure jobs are fully staged with material, tooling, and documentation before release
  • Communicate priorities and changes across Production, Quality, Programming, and Warehouse
  • Ensure all production transactions are accurate and completed in real time
  • Review job quantities, run times, and labor reporting for accuracy
  • Correct discrepancies before job closeout
  • Maintain ERP integrity to support scheduling, costing, and delivery performance
  • Serve as primary technical resource for machining issues on the floor
  • Diagnose and resolve routine machining problems including tooling, offsets, fixturing, surface finish, and dimensional issues
  • Escalate complex issues to Programming or Shop Foreman as needed
  • Coach machinists and operators to build technical capability
  • Partner with Programming on new job launches and process improvements
  • Lead machinists and operators across all departments
  • Manage staffing, attendance, and shift coverage
  • Provide clear expectations, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Address performance and behavioral issues promptly
  • Develop team capability through training and mentorship
  • Drive accountability to safety, quality, and productivity standards
  • Monitor departmental performance and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Standardize setup documentation and best practices to improve repeatability and reduce variation between operators
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve tooling, fixtures, and programming standards
  • Support implementation of Lean initiatives and maintain documentation for setups and best practices
  • Ensure all safety policies and quality standards are consistently followed
  • Monitor key metrics including delivery, scrap, efficiency, and ERP accuracy
  • Identify and drive improvement opportunities
  • Support lean initiatives and standardization efforts
  • Partner with leadership on tooling, fixturing, and process improvements
