The Production Supervisor oversees the daily workflow of the department. This role involves maintaining workflow by monitoring process steps, setting processing variables, observing control points and equipment, and managing personnel resources. The supervisor is responsible for implementing cost reductions, developing reporting procedures, facilitating corrections to malfunctions, and fostering cooperation between departments. They also complete production plans by scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems, and reporting results on shift production summaries. The role includes managing and directing hourly employees, including timekeeping, authorizing pay, handling corrective action, dispute resolution, and approving paid time off. The supervisor analyzes, troubleshoots, and revises systems, procedures, and operational practices while maintaining budgetary and personnel requirements. They maintain staffing by orienting and developing employees, promoting personal growth, and communicating job expectations. Providing coaching, counseling, and discipline are key aspects, as is initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures. Maintaining quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards, ensuring equipment operation by calling for repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques are also crucial. The supervisor provides manufacturing information by compiling, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data. They maintain a clean and safe work environment by educating personnel on the use of control points, equipment, and resources, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. A working relationship with the Union is maintained by following the collective bargaining agreement. Personnel problems are resolved by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action. The supervisor plans and organizes work, checks procedures and equipment for conformance to instructions, and complies with priorities and schedules. Training is provided to employees, including safety talks, job instruction, and policy updates, with efficient and accurate evaluation of probationary employees. Work-related problems such as safety incidents, production delays, quality matters, and operational/equipment inefficiencies are investigated to find root causes and recommend improvements. Other related duties as assigned.
