About The Position

The Production Sub role is part of the Print Operations business within the Production department. This role involves the printing and packaging of several newspaper titles including The Wall Street Journal, Barrons, and Investors Business Daily. The position is based at the White Oak, Maryland print plant and reports to the Foreman/Woman. The primary responsibility is to perform daily press operations in the manufacturing of Dow Jones' and contract print publications, ensuring cost-effectiveness and high-quality standards using existing technology. This includes preparing, operating, and maintaining newspaper printing presses and associated pressroom equipment. Specific tasks involve making pasters, operating web presses, pushing rolls, hanging printing plates, setting color and registration, and general equipment cleaning and maintenance. The role requires meeting customer expectations for reproduction quality, content freshness, and productivity, while managing material consumption cost-effectively in a fast-paced newspaper production environment.

Requirements

0-1 years of relevant experience; willing to train.
Good color perception and are mechanically inclined.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Availability to work on-call with short notice.
Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Perform daily press operations in the manufacturing of Dow Jones' and contract print publications in a cost-effective manner, with the highest quality standards available using existing technology.
Preparing, Operating and Maintaining newspaper printing presses and all associated pressroom equipment.
Make pasters, web presses, push rolls, hang printing plates, set color and registration and general equipment cleaning and maintenance.
Meet customer expectations for reproduction quality, content freshness and productivity, while managing materials consumption cost-effectively.
Work in a fast-paced newspaper production environment.
