About The Position

The Production Specialist is responsible for planning, supervising, and monitoring the production and packaging departments, while maintaining superior standards of first-run quality pasta. The role requires the ability to lead, coach, and mentor production associates to achieve organizational and customer objectives.

Requirements

  • AA degree in Management or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a supervisory level role in a production or manufacturing environment or 4+ years of progressive leadership roles in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Mechanical background is helpful for this position.
  • Be a FSMA qualified individual, following all requirements from FSMA regulations
  • Ensure compliance and understanding for quality procedures that directly tie to food safety—PRPs, OPRPs, CCPs and FSMA requirements

Responsibilities

  • Deliver operational performance objectives of the shift contributing to the goal of being the lowest cost manufacturer of quality products in the industry.
  • Develop, coach, and engage machine operators in areas such as timely pasta production, operational and personal safety, product and process quality, cost containment, and production quality holds.
  • Assist operators in problem-solving and provide mentoring on effective problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ensure effective intra-shift communication with other specialists and stakeholders regarding improved techniques, critical production information, and status of production runs.
  • Instruct and train production associates on task performance and ensure standards are maintained.
  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.
  • Maintain proper staffing levels and administer employee benefits like vacation and personal time.
  • Administer the attendance program with direct reports.
  • Perform annual performance evaluations and conduct new hire and annual performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Effectively work and communicate with others and contribute to positive working relationships within Barilla America.
  • Monitor shift documentation for continuous problems or problem patterns from previous shifts and implement corrective actions.
  • Facilitate communication of equipment issues to Maintenance and assist with problems on all lines.
  • Communicate downtime to Production Manager, Plant Associate Director, and Maintenance.
  • Monitor cleanliness of the die room and die usage.
  • Check waste tickets for accuracy.
  • Anticipate and prepare for process and package changeovers by coordinating appropriate raw materials prior to the start of a new product.
  • Enter critical key performance information into the PROMO database and SAP, ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • Promote the learning and execution of key preventative maintenance and minor maintenance tasks by machine operators.
  • Promote training and execution of equipment troubleshooting by machine operators to reduce mechanical downtime and response calls.
  • Monitor raw material inventory, including ordering and planning with raw material suppliers.
  • Coordinate daily workflow in conjunction with the production schedule.
  • Coordinate the consistent delivery of quality assurance tests for moisture, length, thickness, and shape.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices and FSSC22000 standards.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in the production and employee relations arena.
  • Utilize Process Map to report all near miss, first aid, or other safety events, and provide root cause follow-up.
  • Perform task analysis to ensure a high level of safety awareness and safe working conditions, including LOTO.
  • Maintain operational cleanliness of all production equipment.
  • Comply with environmental policies and procedures, including energy efficiency, reduce-reuse-recycle goals, reporting requirements, and sustainable initiatives.
  • Follow ISO22000 policies and procedures, and address/communicate quality and food safety issues as they occur.
  • Maintain an environment of continuous improvement in safety, quality, and reliability.
  • Actively monitor work areas for safety and quality hazards, make recommendations for change, and implement changes.
  • Enforce all personnel, safety, or quality policies and procedures through modeling, coaching, and discipline.
  • Maintain an environment of team problem-solving by involving process customers and suppliers in decision-making.
