About The Position

The Production Specialist II or III role involves applying advanced technical expertise in a specific specialty area to support operations and maintenance across the Xcel Energy fleet. Specialty areas include Process Controls, Operational Technology (OT), Electrical, Turbine-Generators/Rotating Equipment, Boilers/Heat Recovery Steam Generators, and/or Non-Destructive Testing (NDE/NDT). The role provides technical support through diagnostics, maintenance/outage planning, resource development, documentation, and reliability-centered operations. Responsibilities are divided among technical support (50%), outage support (30%), and fleet-wide program maintenance (20%). The position requires extensive interaction with other departments, plants, and OEMs, and may involve overseeing craft employees. Significant travel within a geographic region and across the fleet is necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six (6) years of work experience in power generation, or equivalent industrial manufacturing/power generation setting, or OEM operations/maintenance that demonstrates knowledge of standard engineering principles/practices/techniques and power generation operations/maintenance processes with expertise in one or more of the following areas: process control, operational technology (OT), electrical, turbine-generators/rotating equipment, boilers/heat recovery steam generators, and/or non-destructive testing (NDE/NDT).
  • Must have the ability to travel extensively and work non-typical schedules.
  • Must be self-motivated and work with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) experience is helpful.
  • Some college coursework in engineering is desirable.
  • Experience in supervising craft employees desired.
  • Technical Field Advisor experience on steam or gas turbines.
  • Experience working with steam turbines, combustion turbines, and other rotating equipment such as pumps and motors.
  • Prior power plant experience, particularly in operations, maintenance, or engineering roles.
  • Proficiency in vibration analysis for troubleshooting mechanical issues and performing equipment balancing.
  • Experience and training on Siemens, GE, or other OEM equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support in specialty area for Energy Supply generation assets, includes supervision of craft employees.
  • Provide start-up assistance and coordination for maintenance, modifications, and new systems.
  • Provide major facility maintenance project management for scheduled and unscheduled outages.
  • Function in a lead role for minor O&M and capital projects related to area of expertise.
  • Develop computerized scheduling techniques for major component outages.
  • Provide technical direction and alternatives for control systems and major equipment problems.
  • Coordinate and evaluate generating asset maintenance programs to improve generation reliability.
  • Make recommendations for corrective action when necessary.
  • Partner with plant personnel and coordinate fleetwide maintenance programs in area of expertise to improve generation reliability.
  • Assist with Energy Supply's preventive maintenance and reliability programs.
  • Assist in conducting periodic audits of Quality Assurance programs/procedures.
  • Assist with the development of standards and procedures to support consistent methods to improve equipment/generation reliability.
  • Act as a liaison between contractors/service providers and the Company.
  • Interface with State Inspector, authorized insurance agents, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Write specifications and purchase requisitions to support Production Resources activities.
  • Write specifications and purchase requisitions for services to support fleet reliability activities.
