About The Position

Royal Canin is seeking a Production Shift Coordinator to join their state-of-the-art facility in Fremont, Nebraska. This is a critical role where the individual will serve as a senior technical operator and the key back-up to the Shift Manager. The Production Shift Coordinator will provide essential direction, scheduling, and leadership to multiple process areas (packaging, receiving, processing, and sanitation), often acting as the primary coordinator on shift when the supervisor is absent. The role ensures that production lines run safely, efficiently, and at peak reliability while directly supporting inventory, logistics, and preventative maintenance systems. Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR equivalent military technical and operational experience.
  • Ability to work night shifts (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM), including rotations, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required to support 24/7 operations.
  • Proven troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving capabilities.
  • High level of communication and team-building skills with a positive, collaborative attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership experience in a food production, FMCG, or highly regulated manufacturing plant.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP) and inventory control principles.
  • Forklift certification (Mars will provide full on-site training and licensing).

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line technical leadership, scheduling coordination, and shift direction across multiple processing departments, serving as the designated backup when the Shift Manager is absent.
  • Step into any departmental role as needed—including sanitation lead, receiving lead, packaging lead, or processing lead—to maintain production flow.
  • Review production schedules, receive/audit maintenance work requests, and partner with reliability teams to coordinate SAP work orders.
  • Prepare purchase orders and generate or update Bills of Materials (BOM) when required.
  • Foster a safe work environment by model-operating equipment and actively enforcing safety rules, personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance, and GMP/GHP guidelines.
  • Lead quality control processes, perform standard quality checks, and make critical quality decisions regarding non-compliant products in accordance with Mars specifications.
  • Document shift performance, maintain detailed logbooks, and record accurate production, waste, and quality control metrics.
  • Assess equipment operating reliability, perform routine repairs and mechanical adjustments, and partner with Maintenance to complete preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment, including a forklift and shag truck, to support inventory control and warehouse logistics.
