The Planning Manager is responsible for building and leading a scalable, data-driven planning function that ensures backlog execution, production alignment, shipment forecasting, and operational readiness across a across a high mix manufacturing environment defined by high product complexity, low volume runs, frequent changeovers, and elevated scrap risk in our Manchester and Hooksett facilities. This role owns planning system maturity, capacity modeling, ERP discipline, backlog segmentation, and cross-functional execution alignment to enable on-time delivery, working capital control, and sustainable growth. The Planning Manager installs and maintains structure, visibility, and accountability into the planning process while executing proactively, and ensuring planning sophistication scales ahead of business growth and demand volatility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • 7+ years of manufacturing planning experience
  • Experience supporting ERP implementation and/or advanced planning systems preferred
  • Advanced data-driven decision-making, systems-level thinking, and problem-solving capability.
  • Advanced Excel capability (including complex formulas, Power Query, and data modeling) required; experience transitioning Excel-based processes into ERP/system-based workflows preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity modeling and production planning
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of ERP planning architecture, including master data structure, routing logic, BOM integrity, capacity parameters, and end-to-end information flow.
  • Success with continuous improvements in ERP process flow from order entry through shipment confirmation.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams
  • Experience in high-mix manufacturing environment required
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to translate data into operational decisions
  • Project leadership experience (ERP, systems, or process implementation)
  • Attention to details and accuracy
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers and other department personnel where English is second language.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • Ability to stand and move around production facility for extended period of time if needed
  • Ability to sit at a desk and conduct computer work for extended periods of time if needed.
  • Ability to wear Safety attire or protective gear on a daily basis.
  • Ability to bend, move between equipment, and aisles of product
  • Ability to travel occasionally, < 20%, to other business units

Responsibilities

  • Backlog Execution & On Time Delivery (OTD) Ownership
  • Own structured, transparent visibility to total backlog and capacity constraints
  • Accountable for accurate and achievable monthly shipment forecasts
  • Lead backlog segmentation and prioritization strategy based on cross functional alignment on key customers, products, and other strategic initiatives
  • Develop and maintain finite capacity modeling to support lead-time accuracy for use cross functionally
  • Improve and sustain OTD performance and shipment forecast predictability while partnering with Sales to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Identify bottlenecks through data and cross-functional analysis
  • Eliminate reactive scheduling through proactive planning cadence
  • Partner with Supply Chain to align material requirements with shipment forecasts while maintaining working capital and inventory turn objectives.
  • Capacity Modeling & Production Alignment
  • Develop and maintain capacity models based on current backlog, sales forecasting, with a rolling 3–6-month outlook
  • Quantify constraint impact prior to capital or labor decisions, gather and present relevant constraint data for supporting investment justifications
  • Lead process standardization to eliminate manual workarounds and reduce planning variability
  • Align Sales forecasts with production capability
  • Drive cross-facility production alignment to optimize throughput and balance constraints across multiple manufacturing sites
  • ERP & Planning System Discipline
  • Own planning-related ERP master data integrity and drive continuous improvement in data quality for accuracy
  • Serve as Planning functional owner for advanced planning system and AI-enabled scheduling initiatives
  • Ownership of scaling and simplifying planning processes by transitioning from offline spreadsheet-based tools to sustainable, system-based workflows that can scale with business and complexity growth.
  • Partner with Data and IT teams to ensure ERP improvements drive beyond reporting to execution and delivery of results
  • Translate operational constraints and production logic into system architecture that can be built upon
  • Standardize work order release, closure, and scheduling discipline
  • Ensure planning process sustainability and documentation
  • Talent Development & Succession
  • Directly manage, develop, and coach Planner I and Planner II roles
  • Build structured capability roadmap for planning team
  • Transition Planning function from transactional execution to analytical and proactive ownership
  • Foster culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement
  • Cross Functional Leadership
  • Lead segment planning meetings
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production to meet business objectives such as shipment forecast or customer requests
  • Provide executive-ready planning analytics and reporting
  • Align planning strategy with broader operational objectives
