Production Planner

ChemelexRedwood City, CA

About The Position

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Translate Master Production Schedule (MPS) outputs into detailed finite shop floor schedules and executable work order release plans to support daily production operations. Ensure alignment between demand and supply plans by analyzing customer orders, forecasts, inventory targets, and manufacturing capacity constraints. Conduct scenario modeling and constraint analysis to identify risks, evaluate trade-offs, and recommend scheduling alternatives to leadership. Evaluate work center capacity loading and resource utilization, recommending adjustments to staffing, overtime, shift structures, or production sequencing to maintain schedule adherence. Manage production sequencing and order prioritization to maximize throughput, reduce bottlenecks, and optimize flow across manufacturing work centers. Collaborate cross-functionally with Procurement, Suppliers, and Materials Management to ensure on-time material availability and proactive resolution of supply risks. Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions related to late materials, supplier delays, and recurring material shortages impacting production schedules. Drive inventory optimization strategies that balance service levels, working capital efficiency, and operational flexibility. Maintain SAP planning master data integrity, including lead times, lot sizing parameters, safety stock levels, reorder points (ROP), and planning strategies. Monitor and report key operational planning metrics including schedule adherence, on-time delivery (OTD), capacity utilization, inventory turns, and backlog, leading weekly planning reviews and tracking corrective actions. Support the SIOP / IBP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) process by providing short- and long-range demand analysis, capacity modeling, and production planning inputs. Coordinate planning activities related to engineering changes (ECOs), new product introductions (NPI), product transitions, and lifecycle management. Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding order status, schedule commitments, and production timelines, ensuring timely and professional communication with stakeholders and customers. Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for material shortages, excess inventory, and slow-moving or obsolete inventory. Lead initiatives to improve lean material flow, including implementation of Kanban systems, PFEP (Plan for Every Part), pull-based replenishment models, and standardized planning processes. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 5–10+ years of experience in production planning, master scheduling, supply chain planning, or manufacturing operations within a complex manufacturing environment. APICS CPIM, CSCP, or Lean Six Sigma certification strongly preferred. Strong experience with ERP/MRP planning systems in mid- to high-complexity manufacturing environments. Strong understanding of MRP logic, master scheduling, capacity planning, and supply planning methodologies. Experience supporting S&OP / IBP processes, including demand planning, capacity modeling, and supply balancing. Demonstrated expertise in inventory optimization, material flow strategies, and supply chain planning. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with advanced planning or analytics tools is a plus. Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation abilities. Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, procurement, engineering, and customer service teams. Ability to manage competing priorities and drive results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience). Proficiency in SAP, particularly Material Management (MM) and Production Planning (PP) modules, required. Professional-level English proficiency required. Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as required within a manufacturing environment. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during an 8-hour shift. Ability to view, interpret, and process information on computer monitors for extended periods during normal working hours.
