About The Position

The Production Planner I coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within or between work centers, ensuring adherence to shop sequences and shipping schedules. This role involves securing inventory items based on levels and usage, and implementing improvement plans for production processes, methods, and controls to maximize manufacturing efficiency. The position requires reviewing documents, materials, products, and work processes for accuracy and conformance to standards, as well as reviewing production schedules and work orders to determine personnel and material requirements and priorities. Communication with department supervisors and other personnel is key to evaluating progress and discussing necessary changes, creating work orders, and ensuring no downtime on machinery. The role also involves assisting with the revision of production schedules due to changes or shortages, communicating with vendors and customers to coordinate production and shipping, and compiling data for production and customer reports. Utilization of the MRP system for shop floor reporting and record maintenance is essential, along with supporting and maintaining company and departmental HSE policies and procedures. The position requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, and ensuring compliance with government, company, and HSE regulations, including ISO 14001 standards. Continuous improvement of HSE performance through objectives, targets, and reporting is expected, along with participation in waste reduction and energy efficiency initiatives. This role works under limited supervision with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years equivalent combination of education and experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Basics Certification Preferred
  • Experience with an MRP System preferred
  • Seeking for a college student or graduate studying engineering with Purchasing Experience and/or BS Engineering
  • Minimum 1-2 years working experience in a manufacturing environment preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years of Expeditor or Production Planning I direct experience preferred in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • APICS Basics certification or experience preferred
  • Programming Knowledge such as Visual Basic preferred
  • Experience with an MRP System

  • Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and follow instructions in oral, written, and basic diagram formats.
  • Ability to multi-task and accomplish different internal and external directives.
  • Intermediate knowledge of basic mainframe computer systems and familiar with Presentation, Word Processing software, and Electronic Mail software; Excel; Access; Database systems; and Internet software.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between work centers with complete regard for the shop sequences and shipping schedule.
  • Coordinate and secure inventory items based upon inventory levels and parts usage.
  • Follow improvement plans to production processes, methods and controls to maximize efficiency of the manufacturing.
  • Reviews documents, materials, products, and work processes, in order to maintain completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications.
  • Reviews production schedules, work orders, and staffing tables to determine personnel and materials requirements and material priorities.
  • Communicates with department Supervisors and other departments’ personnel to evaluate progress and discuss needed changes with Production Planners, creating work orders, work order splits and chain loading to assure there is no down time on machinery within the factory.
  • Assist with the revision of production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other interruptions.
  • Communicates with vendors and customers to in order to coordinate production and shipping activities.
  • Reviews and communicates the production schedules to Manufacturing Supervisors.
  • Compiles data and information in order to create various production and customer reports for review by Operations Management.
  • Utilizes MRP system to maintain shop floor reporting and accurate records.
  • Supports and maintains all company and departmental HSE policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • Responsible for complying with ISO 14001 standards, aspects, directives and impact as related to the HSE policy commitments.
  • Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • Required to comply waste reduction and elimination initiatives specially related with the department and company recycling opportunities and energy efficiencies to elimination of production waste.
