POSITION SUMMARY: Directs and controls the processing and packaging area of the plant on one shift to meet all production goals within established costs and company policies.

  • Responsible for direction and coordination of these employees.
  • Responsible for daily logs and production reports.
  • Responsibilities include training employees, directing work, and resolving problems with the assistance and direction of the Shift Supervisor
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Shift Supervisor, a close relationship is maintained with the Quality Assurance Department.
  • Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
  • The Production Lead shares joint responsibility with the shift supervisor for all functions of the operation on a shift basis.
  • This includes directing all plant hourly work force personnel from ingredient making to off dock shipping.
  • The Production Lead shares joint responsibility with the Shift Supervisor for the shifts budgeted production, ingredient recovery, quality, safety, and sanitation of the entire plant.
  • Controls are maintained at each step to assure that quality, quantity, sanitation and safety goals are met.
  • Knowledge of the functions of each piece of preparation and packaging equipment is necessary for the proper control of the quality of product being manufactured and packaged.
  • Necessary adjustments are recommended to the Process Leads and Operators to help maintain the highest level of productivity.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping, adherence to plant GMP's, and inspecting all equipment and food contact areas for proper sanitation levels prior to and during the shift, and making corrections as necessary.
  • Trains subordinates in safety, accident prevention and in all aspects of the operation.
  • Must assure that steps are taken to remain in compliance with USDA and FDA laws and also maintain compliance with the company policies, and be familiar with the laws that govern the company's conduct with its employees.
  • Reports all accidents/injuries and unsafe conditions immediately to Shift Supervisor
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
