About The Position

The Packer is responsible for maintaining the production lines running efficiently and ensuring all products are packaged by the specifications and guidelines. The Packer will have job rotations within their shift that may include manual packaging, sealing product, organizing product into boxes, and putting product on pallets, and operating pallet jacks to move/transport finished product or raw materials to other locations. The Packer will also perform visual product inspections and report any issues. The Packer must be knowledgeable of all product specifications and be familiar with production reports. The Packer will always prioritize safety and general manufacturing practices. The packer will access product specifications via the company’s ERP system and will be required to enter data into the system.

Requirements

  • Grade School level; High School Diploma/ GED a plus.
  • 1-2 years’ experience operating or working with food manufacturing machinery equipment or similar experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience following work task specifications, SOP’s, recipes, etc.
  • Proficient communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in basic math skills and the proper use of a calculator.
  • Proficient analytical skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Team player.
  • Self-motivated; able to identify errors in the product, and packaging materials.
  • Able to work at the required speed, following established safety requirements.
  • Able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to perform work while standing during prolonged periods.
  • Able to bend, stoop, crawl, reach, grasp and work in adverse and awkward positions.
  • Reliable, punctual and have schedule flexibility including working weekends, Holidays, and off shifts as needed.
  • Able to comply with company attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Adhere to a drug and alcohol zero tolerance policy.
  • Able to comply with and follow all food safety, and third-party certification policies (SQF, Gluten-Free and Organic, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks according to Safety and Food Safety Standards.
  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to the development of safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SQF, GMP, HACCP, OSHA) and company policies related to food safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations.
  • Be knowledgeable about the products being packed, including product specifications and weight.
  • Retrieve product specifications from company ERP system.
  • Identify and understand the specifications of the box and/or bag for packaging.
  • Program the date machine for different products.
  • Prepare the workstation at the start of the shift with necessary materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Meet productivity goals by following the production schedule.
  • Participate in line rotation as needed, which may include moving to other lines, helping co-workers, or cleaning lines during downtime or break/lunch coverage.
  • Communicate with the leader and machine operators about product deficiencies.
  • Operate Auto Baggers, Ilapak, and auto baggers.
  • Complete changeovers on the entire packaging area (vision system, counter stacker, auto bagger, bag printer, weight).
  • Enter production information into TGI (Machine Log) and complete product pathways into TGI system.
  • Ensure all downtime is entered in the Machine Log system.
  • Retrieve packaging materials from the warehouse and return unused materials to storage.
  • Proficiently use computer and RF gun.
  • Practice continuous rotation within assigned workstations, packaging tortillas, boxing tortillas, and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Assist in QA program, including pH verification, Metal Detection Program, recording pH levels, and identifying specification errors.
  • Comply with all SQF requirements.
  • Maintain workstations per SQF guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
