About The Position

The Blast Operator is responsible for loading and unloading parts into the blast equipment and operating the blast equipment, both automated and hand blasting in a miniature blast cabinet. This role involves utilizing a crane to load and unload parts, measuring blast profiles, visually inspecting parts for cleanliness and coverage, and prioritizing work based on instructions. The operator will also record results, identify nonconforming products, and key in labor information upon completion. Basic equipment maintenance and reporting of issues are also part of the duties, along with maintaining a clean work area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift parts weighing up to 50 lbs without assistance; parts over 50lbs require a team lift or use of an overhead crane.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Basic math skills including addition/subtraction of fractions and decimal values.
  • Ability to read measuring instruments including tape measure, mil thickness gage, fluid measuring units, and calipers.
  • Basic reading/writing ability to read and interpret manufacturing orders and material requirements, and to report production.
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours per day.

Responsibilities

  • Loading and unloading parts into the blast equipment.
  • Operating automated and hand blasting equipment.
  • Utilizing a crane to load and unload parts from the blasting area.
  • Measuring blast profile using the compression tape method.
  • Visually inspecting parts to ensure cleanliness and blast profile coverage after blasting.
  • Prioritizing work based on Cell Leader instruction.
  • Visually inspecting parts that have been blasted to ensure quality of work.
  • Recording results.
  • Recognizing nonconforming/defective products.
  • Keying in labor after completion with specific information (Operator number, work order number, operation, release, quantity accepted, quantity rejected, and discrepancy code).
  • Performing basic equipment maintenance (checks and lubrication).
  • Reporting equipment issues.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly work area.
