About The Position

Production Operator manufactures, visually inspects and packages pipe in accordance with JM Eagle specifications. This role involves unitizing pipe on the line, performing necessary measurements to ensure pipe is in tolerance, and accurately completing production inspection reports and supporting documentation. The operator will record bi-hourly line checks, notify supervisors of any changes or problems, and operate a forklift for various tasks. Responsibilities also include identifying visual defects, calculating and making adjustments to the lines, performing minor equipment repairs, and recording machine conditions. The role requires collecting QC samples, making die adjustments, assisting during startup/shutdown/changeovers, and training new employees. Maintaining a clean work area to "Total Housekeeping Management" and "ISO" standards, using safe work practices, and following JM Eagle guidelines are essential. The operator must be able to utilize and understand the bar code system for bundle tags and end-of-shift reports.

Requirements

  • Basic math skills and mechanical abilities.
  • Capability to work 12 hour shifts.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to read and speak English.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume etc.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adequate capability of sight, hearing, and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles (sweeper, forklifts).
  • Sight capabilities to distinguish proper product identification as well as warning and operational indicators.
  • Hearing capabilities to distinguish difference in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning or packaging equipment and products.
  • Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching in all areas.
  • Hear and understand verbal communication whether it be face to face or via the telephone.
  • See and understand written communication.
  • Ability to confirm by sight quality level of raw materials and products produced to determine acceptance or denial of each.
  • Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to access all areas if needed.
  • Lift up to 25-50 Lbs and carry up to 30 ft.
  • Push and or pull up to 1,500 Lbs. up to 30 ft. with the aid of material handling equipment.
  • Walking through, around, and under equipment with a clearance of up to 30 inches.
  • Ability to feel objects, such as textures, size, and shape and to determine temperature by touching.
  • Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees.
  • Sight capabilities to safely operate at arms length machinery and power and /or hand tools needed to accomplish the requirements of the job assignments for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
  • Some computer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Unitize pipe on line.
  • Perform all necessary measurements to ensure pipe is in tolerance.
  • Accurately complete Production Inspection Report and supporting documentation.
  • Record bi-hourly line checks and notify any changes to supervisor.
  • Report any problems to Supervisor.
  • Operate forklift to take units out, take out scrap, change color boxes, or move supplies.
  • Identify visual defects in pipe.
  • Accurately calculate and make required adjustments to the lines.
  • Make minor repairs to equipment.
  • Record machine conditions and report any abnormality to Supervisor.
  • Accurately calculate machine rate.
  • Clean extruder and cooling tank water filters.
  • Make and collect Q. C. samples as required.
  • Make die adjustments for proper centering of pipe wall.
  • Assist during startup, shutdown, and change over.
  • Train inexperienced employees on the job.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly to “Total Housekeeping Management” and “ISO” standards.
  • Use safe work practices and report hazardous conditions.
  • Perform other miscellaneous jobs as directed.
  • Utilize and understand the bar code system to make bundle tags and end of shift report.
  • Follow the guidelines, policies, and procedures of JM Eagle.
  • Review the quality and appearance of finished products and makes most required machine changes with the approval of Supervisor.
  • Work independently as well as under the general directions of the Production Supervisor, Production Lead Man, Plant Superintendent, and Plant Manager.
  • Maintain working relations with all departments.
