About The Position

As a Production Operator at PPG's Monroeville Research & Development, you will be a crucial part of our Specialty Synthesis Group (SSG) operations. You will be responsible for process development and manufacturing of photochromic dyes, OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) materials and optical coatings, ensuring that a quality product is available to our customers when they need them. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Production and scale experience in a similar plant or laboratory environment
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • High level of safety awareness
  • Attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, initiative, and knowledge of PC applications
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis throughout the day
  • Must be able to stand, bend, crouch, kneel throughout the day
  • Use basic tools
  • Operate a Forklift or ability to learn to do so
  • Climb ladders to reach equipment/parts/storage

Nice To Haves

  • Chemical and manufacturing experience preferred
  • Exposure to some inorganic and organic college chemistry lab experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Multi-step organic reactions in a plant environment (50 L to 400 L scale)
  • Run reactions/purifications according to batch sheet
  • Modify batch sheets and other procedures as needed
  • Collaborate with variety of people with minimal supervision
  • Blend, measure, and produce raw materials to manufacture industrial coatings
  • Work in a production environment with a high level of safety awareness and follow all appropriate safety procedures in place
