A qualified Tip Line Operator has knowledge of the Tip Line, its accessory equipment and is capable of setting up and operating the Tip Line product for inspection, packaging and length review activities. The operator understands and performs all tasks in conformance with posted instructions and required documentation. The operator is expected to detect faulty machine operation, defective materials or process problems and communicate to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the Tip Line, its accessory equipment
  • Capable of setting up and operating the Tip Line product for inspection, packaging and length review activities
  • Understand and perform all tasks in conformance with posted instructions and required documentation
  • Expected to detect faulty machine operation, defective materials or process problems and communicate to the supervisor
  • Working knowledge of equipment including: payoff, takeup, insulation patching machine, spark testing/locating devices
  • Ability to mount payoff reels, thread wire through the sparker box, wire straightener, footage clock to the takeup
  • Ability to perform necessary repair tasks on product with insulation faults (including trimming/pressing out lumps, neckdowns, etc.)
  • Ability to select proper sizing die, set proper tension on sizing die holder, set and check wire straightener
  • Ability to follow all written packaging instructions to insure all required put-up lengths of product are met in accordance with customer demands
  • Ability to perform all the necessary package paperwork/labeling and sample collection required to prepare the product for the next operation
  • Ability to attend to machine operations, make adjustments to tension and traverse as necessary
  • Ability to change payoff and takeup reels when required
  • Ability to log total Vu onto correct part number
  • Ability to perform all written documentation duties and requirements which include doing OD charting, length reporting, travel tags, scrap tags, patch and braze repair reporting and labor reporting
  • Ability to ensure Tip Line Defect Tracking Sheet, Reel Tag numbers, Traveler, Locator tag and OSRs are filled out correctly
  • Ability to notify supervisor if forms are needed
  • Ability to use hands on and eyes to verify cores are free of defects (lumps, breakaways, neckdowns, contamination)
  • Ability to perform Tip Line Operator task in conformity with the quality inspection checklist, the manufacturing instruction sheet (MIT) and the safety work practice summary

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of equipment including: payoff, takeup, insulation patching machine, spark testing/locating devices.
  • Mount payoff reels, thread wire through the sparker box, wire straightener, footage clock to the takeup.
  • On product with insulation faults, perform the necessary repair tasks (including trimming/pressing out lumps, neckdowns, etc.) allowed by MIT instructions or other posted quality documentation authorizing repair functions. Select proper sizing die, set proper tension on sizing die holder, set and check wire straightener.
  • Follow all written packaging instructions to insure all required put-up lengths of product are met in accordance with customer demands. Perform all the necessary package paperwork/labeling and sample collection required to prepare the product for the next operation.
  • Attend to machine operations, make adjustments to tension and traverse as necessary. Change payoff and takeup reels when required. Ensure total Vu is logged onto correct part number
  • Perform all written documentation duties and requirements which include doing OD charting, length reporting, travel tags, scrap tags, patch and braze repair reporting and labor reporting. Ensure Tip Line Defect Tracking Sheet, Reel Tag numbers, Traveler, Locator tag and OSRs are filled out correctly. Notify supervisor if forms are needed.
