An SMT Operator III is typically a senior or advanced-level technician responsible for operating and maintaining Surface Mount Technology (SMT) machines used in the manufacturing of electronic circuit boards. This role is common in electronics manufacturing industries, where printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) are produced.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years in SMT operations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate SMT equipment (e.g., pick-and-place machines, screen printers, reflow ovens).
  • Perform program loading and editing for optimal machine performance.
  • Identify and resolve machine errors, alignment issues, solder paste application problems, etc.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance.
  • Inspect boards for soldering quality, component placement, and polarity using microscopes or AOI (Automated Optical Inspection).
  • Ensure processes meet IPC and company standards.
  • Suggest improvements for efficiency, quality, or safety.
  • Work with engineers to implement process changes.
  • Maintain logs of production runs, equipment maintenance, and defects.
  • Follow production and safety protocols.
