About The Position

The Production Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the production floor has all necessary materials readily available and staged for production. This role requires close collaboration with material handlers to ensure timely delivery of goods from the warehouse to the production floor. The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or at least two years shipping and receiving experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and understand shipping and receiving documents (invoices, bills of lading, manifests, etc.).
  • Ability to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write English legibly for simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to accurately count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to calculate shipping and freight costs, discounts, fees, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively with various personalities on the shop floor and develop lasting rapport.
  • Ability to address vendor issues and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to solve shipping/receiving/inventory problems and deal with a variety of issues and variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong attention to detail with good organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Good PC skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and MS Outlook.
  • Proficient in EPICOR and other specialized inventory tracking applications/software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess OSHA forklift certification or obtain one within 1 month of hire.
  • Must comply with and follow all IE standards, programs, policies, and procedures as they apply to this position.
  • Report any unsafe condition immediately.

Responsibilities

  • Work with production supervisor/lead(s) to ensure each cell location is sufficiently stocked with materials for smooth and efficient production flow.
  • Assist with “Ship Loose” items to ensure they are accounted for and stored appropriately.
  • Maintain Point of Use areas, ensuring they are cleaned, organized, and communicating with Material Handler(s) regarding low stock or upcoming needs.
  • Proactively deliver and stage insulation, siding kits, and tube frame to the production floor, working with material handlers to ensure accurate inventory tracking.
  • Stock each cell location with conduit, strut, cable tray, and rolling carts to prevent production shortages.
  • Attend weekly production schedule meetings to stay informed about upcoming jobs and anticipate material needs.
  • Assist cell teams in organizing materials according to the 5S program.
  • Assist with the warehouse material queue once implemented.
  • Assist with the salvage of damaged or used material, working with the material handler to inventory or scrap it as appropriate.
  • Unpackage materials as needed and dispose of packing materials.
  • Assist in production and 5S program needs as required.
  • Work with leads and material handlers to mitigate material anomalies, identifying and resolving issues before production requires the material, and providing regular updates on resolution status.
  • Safely operate various forklifts and overhead cranes to move shipments from the warehouse to storage or other designated areas.
  • Move material as necessary.
  • Operate various hand tools, maintain them in good operating condition, and ensure proper storage at the end of each shift.
  • Confer with appropriate department heads to coordinate shipping/receiving warehouse activities with other functions like production and sales.
  • Work with the Procurement Manager to coordinate planned and unplanned workflow.
  • Participate in weekly scheduled review meetings for planning continuous improvement projects within the warehouse.
  • Maintain general communication with Project Managers regarding the kitting of job cart material and delivery of other key project materials.
  • Contribute to a team environment with a positive and helpful attitude, working towards shared team goals.
