About The Position

Avocado is currently looking for a Production Manager to be part of the Cut&Sow and Quilt departments. You will be reporting to the Senior Operations Manager. This role involves driving daily production schedules, enforcing quality control standards, overseeing equipment maintenance, and leading department supervisors and floor operators while upholding strict safety protocols. The company emphasizes teamwork and in-person collaboration at its Fullerton locations.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 3–5 years in a supervisory or management role on a production floor
  • Ability to effectively communicate internally and externally.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in furniture, bedding, foam, textile, or upholstery manufacturing is highly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with mattress or upholstered goods manufacturing processes (quilting, border work, tape-edging, foam fabrication, spring assembly)

Responsibilities

  • Drive daily production schedules across cutting, sewing, and quilting units, ensuring line balance, minimizing bottlenecks, and hitting target throughput for on-time delivery.
  • Enforce strict quality control standards for fabric precision, seam strength, and quilting alignment, driving root-cause analysis to keep scrap rates and rework to a minimum.
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance and operational efficiency of automated cutting tables, high-speed sewing machinery, and multi-needle quilting equipment to maximize uptime.
  • Lead, train, and mentor department supervisors and floor operators, fostering a high-efficiency culture while upholding strict OSHA compliance and workplace safety protocols.
  • Enforce quality standards throughout the manufacturing process (foam cutting, spring assembly, fabric upholstery, etc.).
  • Conduct or oversee inspections at each production stage to ensure products meet specifications and certifications (e.g., CertiPUR-US, OEKO-TEX).
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints or product defects.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate production floor staff, shift supervisors, and line workers.
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and overtime to maintain productivity targets.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of raw materials (foam, springs, fabric, batting, etc.).
  • Monitor material usage and minimize waste across production lines.
  • Maintain accurate records of work-in-progress (WIP) and finished goods inventory.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of machinery (quilting machines, border machines, tape-edge machines, etc.).
  • Work with maintenance teams to minimize equipment downtime and schedule preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure the production floor is organized, clean, and compliant with 5S standards.
  • Enforce OSHA and workplace safety regulations across all production areas.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and employee safety training.
