About The Position

Fern is at the top of the trade show and expo service industry, with operations spanning over 200 cities. We are looking for a Production Manager to join our National Operations team due to massive growth. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, self-motivated, able to develop strong relationships, lead client service teams, execute tasks, and meet deadlines. A successful Production Manager is highly organized, well-prepared, and dependable, with the ability to multitask. The primary responsibility is to ensure client needs and expectations are met efficiently. This role requires clear communication, organized and detailed planning, quick reaction to changing needs, thorough documentation, leadership of labor crews, and process improvement for efficient use of labor and materials.

Requirements

  • Experience in trade shows or related industry required, preferably in the General Service Contractor space.
  • Five plus years of experience managing operational teams in the live event market.
  • Strong client relationship and service delivery experience.
  • Excellent written and presentation skills.
  • Must reside within Southern California.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Support Account Executives as a primary point of contact and liaison for clients and Fern Account Executives; responding to and coordinating the delivery of client requests.
  • Interface with the workforce and other operations, warehouse, and office personnel to ensure smooth and reliable delivery of all client requests.
  • Interact with Account Executives, co-workers, and clients on all matters related to the delivery of services, or a specific category of service on larger events where tasks are divided up among a number of Fern personnel.
  • Gather information from clients/account executives, organize the information, assure the materials and labor are available, and manage labor to complete the job.
  • Build relationships with the workforce, facility, and vendor representatives that lead to efficient operations.
  • Develop professional relationships that result in the long-term retention of clients.
  • Perform prompt, thorough, and effective verbal, written, and face-to-face communications.
  • Maintain an ongoing understanding of the costs (labor, materials, equipment, etc.) associated with the production of events to assist Account Executives with creating accurately priced and planned client proposals.
  • Participate in company event production planning activities to sustain understanding of the company’s directives and resources.
  • Interface with co-workers and clients for the purpose of ensuring that client requests for information and services are fulfilled in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Maintain proficiencies in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other technology.
  • Perform budgeting and scheduling associated with assigned accounts.
  • Communicate with Account Executive & Client to assure all needs for the event are understood.
  • Create material/equipment needs for the show.
  • Establish manpower needs and daily schedule for the event.
  • Organize workflow for labor crew to ensure all timing needs/deadlines are met (marking the show floor, booth set up, registration, freight handling, show dismantle, load out, etc.).
  • Maintain daily record of onsite labor usage.
  • Ensure superior quality of workmanship and professionalism is maintained.
  • Record material and labor usage for each project completed.
  • Maintain contact with Account Executive and Client so adjustments in material needs and schedule are accommodated.
  • Troubleshoot onsite problems/issues as they arise.
  • Serve as the overall operational leader of the event.
  • Lead and direct labor crews.
  • Responsible for keeping project on schedule and on budget.
  • Ensure high level of client service experience and quality of required deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate, legible records as required.
  • Formalize material and timing reports for billing purposes.
  • Create a ‘Production Notes’ file to document any observations or ideas on improving the production of the event in the future.
  • Follow up with Account Executive to make sure all client expectations were met.
