About The Position

This role supervises the maintenance and repair of all operations and production equipment, including packaging machinery, capsule manufacturing, processing equipment, warehouse and order fulfillment equipment, process HVAC systems, and other ancillary systems. The supervisor is responsible for developing and evaluating bids for maintenance subcontractors, and may be required to directly maintain and repair equipment. This position also tracks and schedules preventive maintenance activities, supervises the maintenance and repair of the physical plant operations area, and oversees janitorial and sanitation work. Collaboration with Engineering on equipment installation and rebuild projects is expected, as is assisting in the planning and implementation of new methods to improve operations and minimize costs. The role involves monitoring and updating shop and parts inventory, assisting in the procurement and liquidation of equipment, and working on new construction or remodeling projects. Additionally, the supervisor assists in overseeing maintenance, repair, and construction work in retail stores, acting as a general contractor for subcontractor coordination. Reporting on potential problems and project progress, and ensuring compliance with safety and GMP requirements are key responsibilities. The role also includes a strong emphasis on safety, supporting a culture of safe production, actively participating in the safety program, and ensuring employees adhere to safety policies and procedures. The supervisor directly manages shift employees in the maintenance department, carrying out responsibilities such as interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) and three to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination.
  • Course work or equivalent experience with basic concepts of engineering and physical science required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise and/or place up to 10 lbs. from ground level and hold weight overhead; return weight to starting position.
  • Tighten and/or loosen a standard torque wrench up to 50 ft./lbs.
  • Lift up to 33 lbs. from 5 inches off ground and raise to 47 inches and then return 33 lbs. to original position.
  • Lift up to 60 lbs. from 31 inch shelf and 2-hand carry for up to 5 ft. and then return 60 lbs. to 31 inch surface.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of all operations and production equipment including all packaging machinery, capsule manufacturing, processing equipment, warehouse and order fulfillment equipment (including conveyors, lift trucks, and other material handling equipment), process HVAC systems, and other ancillary systems (including compressed air and dust collection units).
  • Develops and evaluates bids for work by maintenance subcontractors and submits to manager for approval.
  • May also be required to directly maintain and repair any of the listed equipment, depending on the needs of the department.
  • Tracks, updates, and helps to schedule all preventive maintenance activities at the headquarters plant, as well as throughout the Company’s retail stores.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of the physical plant operations area and supervises plant janitorial and sanitation work including cleaning and replenishment of plant lavatory supplies.
  • Works with Engineering on new and used equipment installation and rebuild projects.
  • Performs other project work on an as-required basis.
  • Checks plant premises for possible pest entry or presence and arranges suitable countermeasures.
  • Works with the Maintenance Manager to schedule and arrange spraying for infestation control throughout manufacturing and warehousing areas.
  • Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of machinery, labor, and materials.
  • Monitors and updates the shop supply inventory and the equipment parts inventory.
  • Assists in the procurement and liquidation of operations and production equipment, as well as equipment, furnishings, and fixtures at the retail stores.
  • Works with engineering on new construction or remodeling projects in the plant on an as-required basis.
  • Develops and evaluates bids from subcontractors including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc. and submits proposals to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager for approval.
  • Assists in supervising the maintenance, repair and construction work in all retail stores.
  • Develops and evaluates bids from subcontractors and submits to the Maintenance Manager and Engineering Manager for approval.
  • Acts as general contractor in coordinating and supervising work of subcontractors in store construction or repair projects.
  • Provides assurance that work is completed on a timely basis and according to plans and specifications.
  • Reports on potential problems and progress on current projects in a timely manner.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.
  • Supports a culture of safe production and exhibits safe work practices.
  • Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in safety activities.
  • Effectively provides and accepts constructive peer-to-peer feedback on safety performance.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, SOP’s, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures (SPP).
  • Reports ALL workplace incidents to manager immediately.
  • Communicates concerns to manager, reports hazards, and provides input on prevention.
  • Properly uses, wears, and stores Personal Protective Equipment when required.
  • Participates on safety teams and/or completes safety-related activities as part of regular job responsibilities.
  • Responsible for safe work performance in area.
  • Ensures the completion of job safety analyses, safety inspections and employee training.
  • Acts as primary communicator of safe work practices and information to department.
  • Facilitates employees’ participation in the safety activity card program and on safety teams.
  • Completes incident investigation reports and submits them to manager by end of shift on which the incident is reported.
  • Conducts safety contacts and documents corrective and preventative actions.
  • Enforces company policies, procedures, SOP’s, SPP’s and safe work practices.
  • Directly supervises shift employees in the maintenance department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
