About The Position

The Production Lead is responsible for setting up the production department to build orders. The position will lead a team of employees working together to build Quaker Window and Door products. The Production Lead will set up and manage the production line effectively utilizing materials, staff and order information. They will train employees in the appropriate process and procedures to complete each step in their department. The Production Lead will explain safety and quality requirements and motivate staff to perform efficiently. Prompt and regular attendance is crucial for the Production Lead position. An employee in this position must be knowledgeable of Quaker's materials, products and systems, and must be a leader of open book management. They must be good communicators and approachable to successfully lead staff.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Proficient Knowledge of the Manufacturing Line
  • Proficient Knowledge of Quaker Product Terminology and Order Sticker Information
  • Proficient Knowledge of Materials Used for Units Produced in the Department
  • Proficient Knowledge of Quaker's Internal Order Tracking System, the Production Portal and ManagerPlus for Equipment Needs
  • Accurate Use of a Tape Measure
  • Ability to Distinguish Material Defects from Quality Material
  • Safe and Proficient Usage of Hand and Power Tools
  • High School Diploma or a Passed General Education Development Test
  • Minimum 1-2 Years Experience in Manufacturing

Responsibilities

  • Set up and manage the production line for each daily schedule
  • Order material including glass, order repairs and view Bill of Materials
  • Track orders and replacement orders, manage backlog, communicate priorities and how repairs are handled
  • Plan ahead, know what job is coming up next and have materials ready
  • Understand operation of all necessary tools and machinery in the department and initiate a resolution of any equipment issues that arise
  • Indirect supervision of all production staff in the department, support employee engagement
  • Lead and motivate a team to meet production goals, utilize the Training & Communication Boards
  • Ensure staff including transfer staff are properly trained to meet the quality expectations for the department, cross-train staff or have them cross-trained when they are ready to learn more, and ensure New Hire Progress Reports are completed for new hires
  • Meet the daily production number goal and prepare for upcoming load dates, understand order priority & manage backlog
  • Be responsible for the quality and on-time delivery of all orders & communicate quality results to all production line staff
  • Communicate needs from Production Supervisor to department staff, also communicate with supplier departments, Shipping and the next shift if applicable, appropriately follow-up when necessary
  • Know the Standard Operating Procedures for products made in the department, be able to solve problems when issues arise
  • Be responsible for ensuring the production line staff follow all safety regulations & guidelines, submit Accident Reporting and documentation when necessary
  • Identify safety expectations for the team and the monthly Safety Goals, prepare for Safety Audits
  • Ensure Cycle Counts are completed timely to support accurate inventory, resolve variances
  • Research and gather an understanding of the department finances, communicate costs to the team to build financial awareness
  • Hold daily huddles with staff to communicate important information, including financials, forecasting and Key Performance Indicators
  • Use Lean Six Sigma strategies to eliminate or minimize waste and improve efficiencies
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
  • Interact and communicate with employees and internal customers in an appropriate manner.
  • Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
  • Communicate via email and prepare reports.
  • Review and analyze data and information concerning quality results, safety audits and on-time-complete results.
  • Plan, prioritize and monitor production department activities.
  • Oversee the completion of assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
  • The Production Lead position has indirect leadership and supervisory responsibilities including assisting with assigning and checking the work of others.
  • The position will also monitor staff performance and employee retention.
  • The individual will train employees, provide performance feedback and assist in completing any correction or discipline necessary.
  • Additionally, the Production Lead will assist in determining means, methods and materials for performing work.
  • Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment including but not limited to eye and toe protection; report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Follow any job-specific or department-specific safety requirements such as Safe Product Handling Guidelines, Basic Tool Safety, Lock Out Tag Out, Safe Pallet Jack Operation and Safe Lift.
  • Minimal travel is required for professional development or to backup similar positions on other Quaker campuses.
