WLTX in Columbia, South Carolina is looking for a forward-thinking, tech-savvy Production Lead to elevate how we tell stories on both streaming and broadcast platforms. This role will help shape our production strategy, lead innovation, and take our visual storytelling to the next level. We’re seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader ready to bring fresh ideas to the newsroom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of television broadcast production experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management skills, and ability to work independently under pressure
  • Strong technical proficiency with newsroom production tools, including vMix, audio mixers, studio lighting, teleprompter systems, robotic cameras, editing platforms, and graphics systems
  • Experience with elections software and live election coverage preferred
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, particularly in fast-paced, live environments
  • Proven ability to remain calm, flexible, and decisive during breaking news and high-stakes situations
  • Commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and fostering a culture of innovation
  • High attention to detail with the ability to make quick, informed decisions
  • Availability to work flexible hours in a 24/7/365 news operation

Responsibilities

  • Exercise independent judgment to lead the evolution of WLTX’s visual storytelling, ensuring content meets the needs of an expanding, multi-platform audience.
  • Serve as the technical and operational lead for daily newscasts, overseeing production workflows and assigning production-related responsibilities
  • Plan and manage technical execution for special projects, breaking news, and continuous live coverage
  • Partner with Engineering to maintain and enhance streaming and broadcast systems that support production goals
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standard operating procedures to improve efficiency, consistency, and on-air quality
  • Direct camera placement, lighting, and set design to create dynamic, visually engaging newscasts
  • Facilitate clear, effective communication between the newsroom and cross-departmental teams
  • Lead live coverage of breaking news and community events with accuracy, accountability, and editorial awareness
  • Utilize data and audience analytics to inform production decisions and increase viewer engagement
  • Drive innovation in show design and storytelling, testing new creative approaches in collaboration with newsroom leadership
