About The Position

Hillman Brass & Copper is seeking a motivated Saw Operator for its production team. This non-exempt, hourly position reports directly to the Operations Manager and is responsible for day-to-day saw operation and material handling. The operator cuts steel stock to customer specifications, safely operates production equipment, and assists with moving inventory throughout the facility. Overtime may be required to meet customer needs.

Hillman Brass & Copper, a division of Arbor Metals, supplies specialty metals in stock sizes or processed to customer specifications using in-house equipment. Its processing includes sawing, shearing, and computer-controlled burning of circles, rings, and custom shapes. Hillman Brass & Copper specializes in copper- and nickel-based alloys and serves industrial and government-related projects.

Requirements

• Accurately read a tape measure.
• Operate a forklift and overhead crane using pendant or radio controls.
• Provide error-free work to external and internal customers.
• Distinguish colors regardless of their position.
• Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• Lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds.
• Have close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Operate the saw.
• Operate a 10-ton overhead crane.
• Operate the in-feed and out-feed conveyor system.
• Operate a forklift.
• Pull and stage product.
• Stack and band processed material.
• Lift overhead chains and hooks.
• Maintain the saw and conveyor system.
• Maintain spatial orientation and awareness while moving safely around an environment with moving objects.
• Use clear vision to judge near and far distances and remain aware of other employees’ work activities.
• Work indoors and outdoors in local weather conditions, including precipitation, cold, heat, high winds, and turbulent conditions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
