  • At least 10 years of production or weld engineering experience on complex aerospace or spaceflight hardware, with progressively responsible technical and leadership roles.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams of engineers and technical staff.
  • Direct experience with friction stir welding and robotic welding tools, including tool certifications and troubleshooting.
  • Experience overseeing machines, NC programming, tool engineering, Lift & Move operations, and laser process integration.
  • Experience with MRB and non-conformance disposition processes.
  • Experience planning and executing production at multi-site facilities and coordinating MES/work orders with manufacturing and industrial engineering.
  • Experience in cost account management for production engineering activities, including budget ownership, tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Must meet U.S. export-control requirements as a U.S. Person.
  • Must be able to obtain access to a NASA facility.

  • Experience on large spaceflight programs, such as SLS or RS-25, or equivalent.
  • FAA A&P background, NDI Level 2 certification, or equivalent inspection or maintenance credentials.
  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting technical rationale and program updates to internal leadership and external customers; NASA experience preferred.
  • Experience with Windchill/APDM or other PLM systems.
  • Training or certification in critical lift/crane operations, robotic weld operator certifications, and environmental/compliance programs.
  • Prior field engineering or operational test experience, such as engine testing, borescope inspections, or flight hardware integration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee specialty production engineering for welding, machining, tool engineering, Lift & Move operations, laser operations, and NC programming for the SLS program.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of approximately 30 or more engineers and technical staff across multiple sites, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for major weld centers and processes, including friction stir welding and robotic weld tools such as I-Stir, VAC, and vertical assembly center tools.
  • Coordinate production execution in specialty disciplines, including machining and NC programming, tool engineering changes, critical lifts, and integration of laser operations with welding and assembly.
  • Manage work-order and MES coordination and scheduling with manufacturing and industrial engineering, including multi-shift operations to meet program milestones.
  • Oversee weld process development, tool certifications, non-conformance dispositions through MRB, and major weld repairs; ensure adherence to specifications, tailoring documents, and DPI updates.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to resolve production constraints at complex weld centers and predecessor assembly interfaces.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce production costs and non-conformances, shorten build times, and improve safety and ergonomics.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors on tooling, drawings, NC programs, and process changes; lead technical reviews and change presentations for program and customer stakeholders.
  • Provide program-level progress updates to senior leadership and NASA customers using Microsoft Project and technical briefings.
  • Manage specialty production engineering cost accounts, including budgets, actuals versus plan, forecasting, and cost-status presentations to program leadership.
  • Ensure the organization maintains training, certifications, and quality controls, and promote inclusion, safety, and ownership.
