About The Position

The Production Engineer 1 is responsible for the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, fabrication and assembly, cost reduction initiatives, processing of engineering changes, and introduction of new products. Also provides guidance and mentoring to technicians and operations support staff. Executes capital projects and significant activities requiring a multi-functional team. The production engineer (PE) is a team player, results oriented, dedicated to excellence and strong work ethics.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing either via a cooperative education experience, internship & prior work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Lean manufacturing: Kaizen, value stream mapping, Kanban, demand flow technology, time studies
  • Software skills including MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD.
  • Line balancing and time studies experience.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability mentor new hire PE Technicians.
  • Knows the complete process and understands the product well.
  • Defines and plans own activities. Able to complete detailed process work.
  • Reports status of own work and junior members work to team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply good judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job.
  • 0 - 2 years minimum experience in a production/manufacturing engineer role with documented examples of process design and implementation across multiple product families in assembly HVAC environment preferred, or automotive, appliance industry
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Electronics or Systems Engineering required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fabrication, stamping, tooling, molding, finishing, assembly and/or controls is preferred.
  • Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering change processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish continuous improvement goals and executes action plans.
  • Utilize proven lean manufacturing abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, increased quality, workflow improvements, estimating, project analysis, technology development and core manufacturing skill set.
  • Assist other PE’s on 8D (Eight Disciplines of team-oriented problem-solving), FMEA (Failure Mode & Effects Analysis), and implementation of Kaizen activities.
  • Work with Design Engineers to revise and sustain HVAC product machines along with tooling designs utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Provide manufacturing technical support to Design Project teams.
  • Document product designs by preparing cost analyses, review drawings and engineering change requests.
  • Assist in redesigning internal components to improve overall long-term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Develop engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to launch product/assembly line modifications, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
  • Assist in the development of project schedules related to existing product/assembly line launches or design modifications.
  • Assist in the development of new suppliers for manufacturing equipment, develop key suppliers, create an environment of continuous improvement in equipment UPTIME, EFFICIENCY & QUALITY.
  • Provide guidance to technicians.
  • Participate in additional projects to support ongoing business needs and day to day issues.
  • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.
