About The Position

The Production Coordinator (PC) at Georgetown University Press is a temporary position that is available for a maximum of six months. This role traffics books from manuscript through finished book of roughly 45 titles annually, including selection of freelancers and other vendors, management of digital file conversion, and release of books to the warehouse. PC also handles routing all vendor payments through the university system. This person works closely with the Director and most staff to ensure products are delivered within budget and on time. This is a critical role and fills an important gap in our current staffing.

Requirements

  • BA degree.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in book publishing, preferably working in production.
  • Superior attention to detail, knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, and mastery of English.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Acrobat, Photoshop, and InDesign).
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate equally well with vendors, colleagues, and academics.

Nice To Haves

  • Editing certificate or 1-2 years of related work experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Fluency with Mac and PC, prior experience using a database.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manuscripts before and after transmittal.
  • Track projects that are managed by our production partner, Westchester Publishing Services, ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Identify cover designers for each title and manage process, ensuring covers are received on-time and within budget.
  • Submit requests for printer bids, evaluating fit and budget and then selecting appropriate printer for each project.
  • Manage vendor invoices, routing them through GU payment paths.
  • Regular communication with internal stakeholders about production status and any issues or changes in expectations that occur, including regular project updates to database.
  • Manage files, including archiving and filing finished print-ready files and logging final invoice amounts.
  • Manage two paid student interns.
  • Works closely with acquisitions editors.
