About The Position

The purpose of the Production Associate role is to safely manufacture product per existing materials and process within work centers ensuring that sales orders are shipped on time with high quality. This role is part of the Signage Department and reports to the Production Group Leader. The typical hours are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, with additional hours as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, Internet Explorer, and ERP software.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Keen attention to detail is central to the job in order to detect defects that could be easily missed.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively when reporting issues and defects is necessary.

  • High School Education required.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing shop or warehouse experience preferred.
  • Experience using SAP or other ERP System preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Wear PPE as outlined in the Sonny’s PPE policy.
  • Attend safety trainings and safety huddles.
  • Identify unsafe work conditions and report them to the Supervisor, Safety Manager, or designate.
  • Actively involved in suggesting and implementing safety improvements or initiatives.
  • Ensure all walkways, emergency exits, and panels are kept free from obstruction in accordance with all local, state, and national safety codes.
  • No lost time accidents for self or team members.
  • Inspect PARTs being pulled from prior work center or warehouse.
  • Maintain clean workspace with all tools maintained in good working condition and located in the correct location. Prep workspace for new jobs.
  • Follow work instructions and meet quality control expectations. Materials used match production order and sales order.
  • Participate in corrective action process and other problem solving meetings as needed.
  • Follow all quality processes, perform inspections, and document checklist actions as required – represents a culture of quality.
  • Actively involved in performing and sustaining 5S initiatives.
  • All sales orders ship with zero defects.
  • Adhere to basic LEAN principles and concepts.
  • Follow PULL Manufacturing completing the task at hand and then pulling the next priority per the Coordinator’s direction.
  • Do not use excessive batching – follow visual cues and do not continue to produce product if the products staging area is full.
  • Actively seek cross training and look to support constrained work centers when starved for material or when staging areas are full.
  • Ensure materials are stored in the proper location with visible labeling. Work in progress (WIP) is required to be labeled with production order number and sales order number.
  • Ensure that finished product is high quality and matches the requirements from the sales order.
  • Actively work with team members and exhibit positive team behavior to drive towards meeting our metrics (goals and objectives).
  • Daily expectations are met and there is awareness of the weekly schedule and objectives.
  • Follow the production orders and sales orders as though they are work instructions and do not deviate without management approval.
  • Produce final product that matches the customer approved proof.
  • Use existing materials and processes to complete production activities.
  • Follow UL-48 standard when producing UL certified items.
  • Production orders and sales orders need to be completed within the schedule time and match the customer approved proof.
  • Complete annual self-evaluation review on time.
  • During annual review, clearly articulate goals for upcoming quarter to Supervisor.
  • Attend monthly 1-to-1 meetings with Supervisor.
  • Complete goals as set by Supervisor within goal time period.
  • Attend internal training seminars as required/scheduled by Supervisor and Plant Manager.
  • Meets all deadlines related to monthly 1-to-1 meetings with Supervisor.
  • All raw materials are placed into the correct storage locations.
  • All finished goods are placed into the correct storage locations.
  • All completed parts are put away in their respective bin locations.
  • All material is properly identified with clear and legible labeling.
  • Less than 2% variance for raw material and finished goods inventory value.
  • Perform all daily preventive maintenance actions.
  • Ensure all surfaces are wiped down, floors are swept, and material is put away daily.
  • Ensure floors are mopped weekly.
  • Engage the Supervisor to promptly schedule any required repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all walkways, emergency exits, and panels are kept free from obstruction in accordance with all local, state, and national safety codes.
  • Monitor storage conditions and propose new storage strategies where required.
  • Ensure all vendor deliveries are put into proper bin locations within 24 hours of receipt.
  • All team members are familiar with and held accountable to Sonny’s required housekeeping practices. All areas are kept clean, neat, and tidy, and all machines are kept in working order with preventive maintenance completed on time and in full to the required schedule.
  • Attend all continuous improvement trainings and actively participate in 5S initiatives.
  • Engage Supervisor on the floor and in monthly 1-to-1 meetings to discuss challenges due to work center setup, part storage, material handling, etc.
  • Submit or engage Supervisor with suggestions and proposed solutions to existing challenges.
  • Participate in problem solving meetings with team members to determine possible solutions.
  • Work with Supervisor to plan and schedule improvement project implementation around production schedules and requirements.
  • Participate daily sustaining 5S. Actively participates in at least one continuous improvement project per year.
  • Be an effective model of the behaviors that support the company’s culture.
  • Be attentive to the behavior of other staff in accordance with the company’s mission, vision, and values, and inform supervisor of potential concerns.
  • Provide constructive input to the definition of the departmental and company cultures by reinforcing required behaviors and holding team members accountable for displaying them.
  • Tell stories of prior experiences that illustrate the company’s culture.
  • The Operator will understand and conduct themselves appropriately per the company’s mission, vision, and values related to culture.
  • Engage in any other activities that may not be listed above but are required to meet the accountabilities and expectations for the role as described above.
