About The Position

Airgas is hiring a Production Associate (Helper) in Montgomeryville, PA. This role is responsible for safely operating equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both for high pressure and liquefied gases. The associate will load and unload gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers, moving cylinders with proper carts only. They will sort empty cylinders by type, roll cylinders, and operate a forklift truck for the movement of cylinders on pallets. Understanding the hazards of various gases and cylinder contents by reading labels and color-coding is crucial. The role involves accurately labeling cylinders, handling high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders, and preparing them for filling. This includes attaching to a manifold and evacuating cylinders to eliminate contaminants. Basic cylinder maintenance such as painting, labeling, and cleaning the work area is also part of the job. The associate will inspect cylinders prior to filling, conduct safety checks, and fill cylinders by pressure and weight according to regulations. Inventory management and completing quality control sheets are also responsibilities. Compliance with all government and company standards for the safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases is mandatory.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Lives by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, procedures which are applicable to this position's responsibilities.
  • A minimum of 1 year of related technical experience.
  • In lieu of specific industry experience, may accept an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience utilizing SAP or similar ERP system preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite or Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both for high pressure and liquefied gases.
  • Load and unload gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers.
  • Move cylinders with proper carts only.
  • Sort empty cylinders by type.
  • Roll cylinders and operate a forklift truck for the movement of cylinders on pallets.
  • Understand hazards of various gases; size and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks.
  • Accurately label cylinders.
  • Handle high-pressure, medical and liquid cylinders.
  • Prepare high pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling.
  • Attach to manifold, evacuate cylinders to eliminate all possible contaminants.
  • Perform basic cylinder maintenance such as painting cylinders, labeling cylinders, and cleaning of work area.
  • Inspect cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards.
  • Conduct a variety of Safety checks per procedures, such as odor tests, checking caps and valves.
  • Fill cylinders by pressure and weight, per regulations and standards.
  • Check for cylinder quantities, styles and product, and/or assist with inventory.
  • Manage paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards.
  • Complete quality control sheets as required.
  • Comply with all government and company standards relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases.
