About The Position

Ameriscan Designs, a leader in custom commercial millwork and architectural fabrication, is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Production Assistant to support engineering, CNC programming, and shop‑floor production activities. This role serves as a critical technical troubleshooter and cross‑department problem solver, ensuring smooth workflow between drafting, programming, machining, and fabrication teams. The Production Assistant will support CNC programming, perform material takeoffs, assist with shop drawings and change order production processing, and help resolve production issues on complex or fast‑moving projects. This position works directly with the Shop Leader, providing hands‑on assistance with functions of production needs, technical challenges, and process improvements across the production environment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in architectural millwork, CNC programming, drafting, or production support.
  • Proficiency with Microvellum, AutoCAD, and familiarity with CNC programming principles.
  • Strong understanding of millwork construction methods, materials, and shop fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and CNC cut sheets.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues across multiple departments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in engineering, drafting, manufacturing technology, or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review architectural drawings and shop drawings to calculate material quantities for production.
  • Assist in creating, revising, and interpreting Microvellum and AutoCAD shop drawings.
  • Support CNC programming by preparing, reviewing, and validating cut files for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Verify that drawings and programs align with AWI standards, Ameriscan construction methods, and project specifications.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines as needed to cut particle board, MDF, plywood, and solid surface materials according to project specifications.
  • Serve as a first‑line technical troubleshooter for CNC machining issues, programming errors, and production bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with CNC operators to resolve toolpath, material, or machine setup issues.
  • Assist in validating cut quality, part accuracy, and machine performance.
  • Support continuous improvement and roll out of revised standards of CNC workflows, tooling strategies, and programming templates.
  • Work directly with the Shop Leader to coordinate daily priorities, track progress, and address production challenges.
  • Assist in communicating technical details between engineering, shop personnel, and production management.
  • Participate in problem‑solving for complex or unusual millwork assemblies.
  • Help maintain production documentation, job packets, and revision control.
  • Provide technical support to drafters, programmers, CNC operators, and foremen.
  • Participate in production reviews for high‑complexity projects.
  • Communicate proactively regarding issues, delays, or required clarifications.
  • Support implementation of process improvements and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
  • Assist with training or onboarding of new CNC or production personnel when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shop Leader.
