KARE 11, the TEGNA NBC affiliate serving the Minneapolis–St. Paul market, is seeking a detail-driven part-time/temporary Studio Production Assistant. The primary focus of this role is operating robotic camera systems during live newscasts, local programming, and digital/streaming content. This position works closely with the production, news, and technical teams to maintain exceptional visual quality and control in a fast-paced live broadcast environment.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in television studio production, specifically operating robotic or manual broadcast studio cameras.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with live newsroom workflows, studio production environments, and basic control systems.
  • Composure Under Pressure: Ability to thrive under pressure, respond adaptively to breaking news, and maintain composure in a live broadcast environment.
  • Communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with crew members and directors.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Flexible scheduling required—must be available to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and breaking news coverage as needed.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift, push, or move up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Camera Operations: Primary responsibility for operating, controlling, and managing robotic camera systems, including pre-setting camera blocking, framing, and movement during live and recorded broadcasts.
  • Studio Operations: Assist with general studio operations, including floor direction and teleprompter operations.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the highest level of visual excellence and quality control across all live and pre-produced content.
  • Technical Collaboration: Collaborate closely with directors, control room operators, and newsroom personnel to ensure smooth, deadline-driven execution during broadcasts and breaking news events.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties within the production department as assigned.
