Product Systems and Manufacturing Engineer

Fuse IntegrationSan Diego, CA
$75,000 - $110,000Onsite

About The Position

Fuse Integration is looking for an energetic and detail-oriented Product Systems & Manufacturing Engineer who will be the technical owner for assigned aerospace and defense electronic products across their lifecycle—from requirements and architecture through NPI, production, and sustainment. This role combines systems engineering, manufacturing engineering, and materials/BOM ownership. You will ensure products are well-defined, manufacturable, supportable, and delivered on time by working closely with Design Engineering, Test, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, Program Management, and Field Service. You are the “go-to” person for system-level questions, manufacturing readiness, and material availability for your products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or high‑reliability electronics in roles such as systems engineer, manufacturing engineer, project engineer, or product engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience with electronic systems or subsystems (e.g., RF, digital, mixed-signal, embedded systems, or complex electronic box-builds).
  • Hands-on experience with NPI and manufacturability of electronic assemblies (PCBAs, cables/harnesses, electro-mechanical assemblies), including DFM/DFA and design reviews.
  • Experience leading RCCA activities and implementing corrective and preventive actions using structured methodologies (8D, 5‑Why, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Experience working with BOMs, ECOs, and configuration control in ERP/MRP and PLM systems.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications; familiarity with IPC and relevant aerospace/defense standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Proven ability to work cross‑functionally, manage competing priorities, and drive tasks to closure with limited oversight.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of technical documentation and presentations.
  • Highly collaborative
  • US citizen
  • Able to work locally in San Diego

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an AS9100‑certified environment and working on DoD or aerospace production programs.
  • Background in component engineering, obsolescence management, and alternate component qualification for electronic parts.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement; Green Belt certification is a plus.
  • Experience with fielding and sustaining deployed systems, including support to field service and end users.
  • Your own unique talents! If you meet some requirements of this position but not 100% of the qualifications outlined above, tell us why you’d be a great fit for this role based on your specific characteristics that align with our values and goals

Responsibilities

  • Own the product Bill of Materials (BOM) structure and configuration from prototype through full‑rate production and sustainment.
  • Assist with parts sourcing, including evaluation and selection of alternate components based on lead times, cost, performance, and obsolescence issues.
  • Help track parts acquisition and production planning in collaboration with Supply Chain, Production Control, and Program Management to ensure material readiness for builds.
  • Ensure configuration control, adherence to engineering change orders (ECOs), and proper implementation of BOM and documentation changes in the ERP/MES and PLM systems.
  • Support obsolescence management for critical components and drive redesign proposals or alternates when required.
  • Coordinate closely with production and quality teams to support system build, configuration, and acceptance testing.
  • Provide floor support to resolve day‑to‑day manufacturing issues, train production personnel on new processes, and ensure adherence to standard work.
  • Lead root‑cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities for yield escapes, process nonconformances, and customer returns; implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop product troubleshooting guides and other technical reference materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with integration of hardware, firmware, and software components in lab and field environments, including support to troubleshooting and defect resolution.
  • Diagnose, fix, and troubleshoot complex technical issues in systems or components; drive cross-functional resolution.
  • Maintain and manage product development schedules with the goal of meeting customer timelines and achieving program/project milestones.
  • Provide prioritization inputs to guide cross-functional teams (engineering, product, test, production) to execute product development resulting in product demonstration and delivery.
  • Support risk management, including identification, tracking, and mitigation of technical and schedule risks across the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in regular program reviews, status meetings, and customer interactions as the product technical representative for manufacturing and system-level topics.
  • Support the development of work instructions and subassembly drawings/BOMs for new product development.
