About The Position

Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization focused on building and advancing the technological backbone for Disney’s media business. The team combines technology with creativity to develop world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive innovation and scalability. Technologists in this group design and build products and platforms powering media, advertising, and distribution businesses. The products and brands, including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, and ABC, serve millions of people globally. The Content Platforms & Operations team is responsible for the development and advancement of technical and operational functions for worldwide distribution and monetization of Disney’s linear networks and theatrical content. This includes the media supply chain, storage, distribution operations, media localization, and transmission. The team also collaborates with regional business teams in EMEA, APAC, and LATAM. The Content Platforms team's mission is to "reimagine the technical ecosystem that empowers The Walt Disney Company to harness its unparalleled storytelling and distribute it around the world." This role is part of the Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology segment, responsible for global scheduling, delivery, and monetization of Disney VOD and live content across multiple platforms. The team is growing and investing in innovative technology to deliver a state-of-the-art content pipeline.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience building backend or full‑stack web applications
  • Strong experience with Java / Java EE / JVM‑based languages
  • Solid understanding of RESTful API design and service‑oriented architectures
  • Experience working with document‑based or NoSQL data stores
  • Familiarity with building and supporting highly available, secure, and performant systems
  • Experience collaborating in an agile, team‑based development environment
  • 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • BS Computer Science or related technical discipline or its equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cloud‑native development (AWS or similar)
  • Experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, logging, monitoring, or infrastructure‑as‑code
  • Interest in or exposure to AI/ML‑assisted features, automation, or data‑driven systems
  • Experience working on platforms that process large files, workflows, or asynchronous jobs
  • Some previous experience in a U.S. startup environment
  • Comfortable performing multiple roles

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and JVM‑based technologies
  • Contribute production‑quality code with a focus on scalability, performance, security, and reliability
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to evolve service architecture, APIs, and data models
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and operational readiness to ensure high code quality
  • Work within a modern DevOps environment, contributing to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and operational support
  • Help deliver features iteratively, incorporating feedback and continuously improving the platform
  • Learn and apply new technologies, including AI‑enabled capabilities, as they relate to media servicing workflows
  • Assist in the design, development, testing and deployment of high-quality software solutions
  • Apply excellent communication skills while interfacing with both technical and product teams to capture new system requirements and then apply expertise in software development in the delivery of innovative solutions for those requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and evangelize best practices
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our core systems and how they interact with upstream and downstream dependencies
  • Contribute and review code, set standards, and work with engineers to ensure product and design specifications are met
  • Responsible for fundamental platform performance, scalability, and resiliency
  • Partner with stakeholders to refine requirements, and propose solutions to problems that span multiple teams
  • Contribute to cross-functional troubleshooting of complex issues as needed
