About The Position

The Product Safety Engineer will lead and execute regulatory activities to ensure the compliance of TOPPAN’s packaging solutions. In this role, you are responsible for maintaining a high level of expertise in global regulations applicable to flexible and thermoforming packaging. You will leverage this expertise to support the business by handling internal and customer regulatory requests to validate and build confidence in the safety of TOPPAN products. This is a remote position. Title level will be determined based on experience and business needs.

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience evaluating consumer packaging for regulatory compliance or related work
  • Educational background in a scientific discipline such as packaging engineering, chemistry, toxicology, or a related field
  • Expertise in regional food contact regulations, including those of the USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Asia.
  • Understanding of regional migration testing requirements
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Maintain expertise in global regulations relevant to TOPPAN products, including food contact regulations, and regulations applicable to packaging for medical devices and pharmaceuticals
  • Support expanding business opportunities by researching and managing new regulatory topics
  • Communicate with suppliers to obtain accurate and complete regulatory documentation for raw materials
  • Document and communicate product compliance status to internal and external stakeholders
  • Respond to external inquiries to support customers in meeting compliance requirements (e.g., FDA, Prop 65, allergens, REACH, CONEG, chemicals of concern)
  • Support technical teams in identifying the need for third-party analytical testing (e.g., migration, extraction)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including R&D, Supply Management, Legal, Quality, and Sales—to provide regulatory guidance
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on TOPPAN products
  • Identify potential regulatory risks and support mitigation strategies
  • Track and anticipate substances of concern to customers and consumers
  • Represent TOPPAN at conferences as engaged and committed to food safety and compliance topics
  • Support Quality-led initiatives such as FSSC, plant-level audits and certifications, and FDA site registration
  • Provide ongoing education and training to regulatory team members
