About The Position

The Product Safety & Compliance Manager at Turtlebox owns all regulatory certifications and product safety requirements across our speaker and accessories portfolio. You'll work closely with Engineering and the QEM on design requirements, manage our relationships with certification labs, and keep the product development team informed on what's required and when. This role is well-suited to someone who has done compliance work at a consumer electronics company and understands that the goal isn't paperwork — it's making sure nothing leaves the factory that shouldn't be in the market. We're in a team-building phase, which means this role will evolve. You'll need to be comfortable stepping into gaps, building processes, and adapting as we scale. The compliance function here is yours to shape.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, or a related technical discipline
6+ years of experience in product safety, compliance, or regulatory affairs — with a track record of owning compliance programs, not just supporting them
Working knowledge of FCC Part 15, CE marking (RED, LVD, RoHS), UL/IEC safety standards, and global wireless certifications
Hands-on experience with battery and power safety compliance — UN 38.3, IEC 62133
Familiarity with material safety regulations — REACH and Prop 65 in particular
Experience managing certification programs end to end with third-party labs
Ability to read and interpret product standards and translate them into engineering requirements
Strong documentation and organizational skills — compliance is about getting the details right
Comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, supply chain, and legal
Proactive communicator — the team shouldn't learn about a compliance issue at the last minute

Nice To Haves

Experience with Bluetooth, wireless, or audio consumer products (FCC Part 15B/C, IC RSS)
Experience with compliance for products sold in the EU, UK, or Canadian markets
Background in consumer electronics with global distribution — you've navigated multi-market certification before
Experience with rugged or outdoor products — IP-rated, battery-powered, or field-use consumer hardware
Startup or small team experience — comfortable stepping into gaps and building processes from scratch

Responsibilities

Own Regulatory Compliance Across the Product Line
Manage all product certification activities — FCC, IC, CE, UL, UKCA, WEEE, and applicable international standards
Develop and maintain the regulatory compliance roadmap for all current and future product lines
Support market expansion by identifying and documenting compliance requirements for new geographies
Drive Compliance into Product Development
Engage with Engineering early in development programs to communicate applicable regulatory requirements
Review product designs and materials for compliance risks — identify issues before products go to certification
Manage test sample submission, scheduling, and coordination with third-party certification labs
Ensure engineering changes are evaluated for compliance impact and re-tested when required
Manage Documentation and Declarations
Maintain accurate and current compliance documentation — DoCs, technical files, test reports, and certifications
Manage the product compliance database and ensure it's accessible to the team
Prepare and maintain regulatory declarations required for product sale and import
Own Manual Literature and Packaging Compliance
Own the regulatory requirements for all product manual literature — safety warnings, multilingual statements, required disclosures, and market-specific legal copy
Define and maintain packaging compliance requirements — regulatory markings, labeling standards (FCC ID, CE mark, WEEE, battery disposal symbols), and country-specific packaging mandates
Review all manual and packaging content for compliance accuracy before production release — you are the final sign-off
Work with Marketing, ID, and Operations to ensure compliance requirements are built into packaging and literature workflows, not retrofitted at the end
Battery, Material, and Environmental Safety
Own battery and power system compliance — UN 38.3, IEC 62133, and transport safety requirements
Ensure material compliance across the product portfolio — RoHS, REACH, Prop 65, and supplier material declarations
Define and manage environmental and durability testing requirements in partnership with Engineering and the Validation Engineer
Work with suppliers on material compliance and support incoming material documentation
Product Safety
Review new product designs against applicable safety standards and flag risk areas early
Coordinate with the QEM and Engineering on safety-related design requirements and test criteria
Support field safety issue investigation and coordinate any required regulatory notifications
Build Compliance Processes
Build scalable compliance processes as the product line and team grow — document what's working, identify the gaps, and establish repeatable systems
Monitor regulatory changes that affect Turtlebox products globally and proactively update internal stakeholders
Identify compliance gaps and drive mitigation before they become product launch risks
