Product Requirements Specialist

BIS Safety SoftwareSherwood Park, AB
CA$70,000 - CA$85,000Hybrid

About The Position

BIS Safety Software is a SaaS company focused on transforming how organizations manage safety, learning, and compliance. As the product team expands, there's a need for a Product Requirements Specialist to translate ideas and customer feedback into precise requirements for development. This role involves managing cases from initial definition through release, ensuring clarity and accuracy in documentation, and facilitating the smooth progression of work. The specialist will report to the Product Lead and collaborate with Product Managers, focusing on the detailed specification of already-scoped product features. The role can be remote, but in-person presence at the Sherwood Park office is preferred for local candidates.

Requirements

  • Catch edge cases and gaps that others miss, and would rather redo it right than ship it fast and wrong
  • Take ownership without being walked through every step, and default to figuring it out over asking who can tell you – you make sure things don’t get stuck
  • Hold a high bar on detail across every case, catching the small inconsistencies in wording, scope, and structure that cause rework later
  • Push and follow up until something gets resolved, going directly to the right person instead of sitting on a problem
  • Use AI daily in real workflows, with concrete examples of what you've built or automated, not just reformatting text
  • Turn a vague ask into a precise, developer-ready spec in writing, and have examples you can share

Nice To Haves

  • Prior product management or product owner experience
  • Experience writing PRDs, spec docs, or similar structured documentation
  • A customer experience or client-facing background you're looking to move into product
  • Familiarity with concepts like AI agents, skills, and multi-step AI workflows

Responsibilities

  • Turn undeveloped cases into build-ready specs, writing PRDs and spec docs that catch edge cases and client use cases before development starts
  • Work through mockups with designers and tighten language until a case is genuinely ready to hand off
  • Run a daily check on the highest-priority cases, flagging what's blocked, waiting, or at risk of missing its target
  • Go directly to the right person to unblock stalled work
  • Own scope accuracy on the cases you touch, making sure what reaches development reflects what was actually agreed with the client
  • Use AI as a core part of your workflow, from drafting specs to iterating on AI output rather than accepting a generic first pass
  • Support release communications when needed, including release notes and flagging noteworthy updates to the right people

Benefits

  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Life insurance and disability insurance
  • Health spending account
  • Flexible working hours
  • On-the-job training and growth opportunities
  • Free on-site parking
