About The Position

The Product Quality Engineer will work with a cross-functional team, including design, engineering, manufacturing, program management, and quality, to develop and implement the APQP process for new product development and product launch. This role involves developing and maintaining project timelines, identifying and mitigating risks, and communicating project status to stakeholders. The engineer will conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential issues early in the design process. Responsibilities include defining test plans for product and component validation in agreement with the Product Development team and the customer, monitoring component sample progress, and coordinating the product validation program. The role also involves coordinating with suppliers to ensure APQP processes align with company requirements, providing first samples to the customer with necessary reports, collecting evidence for product validation reports, and interfacing with the customer on quality aspects, particularly managing nonconformities in pre-series/series phases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical, electronic, electrical, or industrial engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in APQP or a related field in the automotive industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of APQP processes and tools, including FMEA, control plans, and validation methods.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to develop and maintain project timelines, identify and mitigate risks, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods, with experience using tools such as Minitab.
  • Familiarity with automotive standards, such as IATF 16949 and VDA.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Available to travel domestically and abroad to the manufacturing sites to meet with the manufacturing teams and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement APQP process for new product development and product launch.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, identify and mitigate risks, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA).
  • Define test plans for validation of the product and components.
  • Monitor progress status of components samples and take action to solve criticalities.
  • Coordinate the product validation program (availability of components, planning of tests at laboratories, etc.).
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure APQP processes are aligned with company process requirements.
  • Provide first samples for the customer (dimensional, material and functional reports) and ensure customer approval.
  • Collect evidence of requested quality activities in the specific product validation report.
  • Interface with the customer for quality aspects, specifically managing nonconformities in the pre-series/series phases.
