About The Position

This is a full-time remote position for a Product, Platform & Enterprise Full Stack Software Engineer II. The role involves transforming complex rail logistics and workflows into high-performing products, developing software platforms for reusable and scalable services, and empowering the workforce with cutting-edge collaboration tools. The engineer will contribute to developing and deploying software for core freight movement operations, focusing on building and operating large-scale distributed systems such as messaging systems, micro-services, data platforms, serverless runtimes, customer experiences, and applying AI/ML. Responsibilities include writing production-quality code, participating in design reviews, writing tests, debugging issues, developing APIs and tools, building monitoring systems, collaborating with application teams, designing and operating scalable systems, and demonstrating operational excellence, including participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation. Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the US
  • Minimum 3 years of software development or related experience
  • Experience programming in at least one modern language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, etc.)
  • Experience with developing, testing and deploying high quality software in production systems
  • Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
  • Experience with secure coding practices
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with stakeholders
  • Experience participating in design reviews, incident retrospectives, or RFC processes
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and to adapt to new technologies quickly
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, or related field
  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Engineering experience with a public PaaS or cloud provider (AWS, Azure or GCP)
  • Interest in sustainable infrastructure and cost/resource awareness
  • Experience with single-pane-of-glass management platforms or control planes for distributed systems
  • Familiarity with frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, Spring Boot
  • Prior experience developing and delivering highly reliable distributed systems in production environment.
