Product Owner

Yes EnergyBoulder, CO
$95,000 - $120,000Hybrid

About The Position

Yes Energy’s products help power market analysts, traders, and asset managers understand the North American electric grid in real time — pricing, congestion, transmission, generation, and the complex data flows that drive decisions worth billions of dollars. The Product Owner sits at the center of how we turn that data and customer insight into software that works. This role exists to ensure our engineering teams are always building the right things, in the right order, with enough clarity to execute. You will own the product backlog for one or more of Yes Energy’s product teams — managing a prioritized queue of work that reflects real customer needs, business strategy, and technical reality. You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, UX Designers, Support, Customer Success, and Sales. You will talk to customers directly. You will write user stories that engineers can act on and stakeholders can understand. You will make tradeoff decisions every sprint and communicate those decisions clearly. The person who succeeds in this role is organized, curious, direct, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with complex data and demanding customers. Energy market experience is not required — but a genuine interest in learning it is.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst in a software product environment
  • Demonstrated Agile/Scrum experience: sprint ceremonies, backlog management, user story writing, and acceptance criteria definition
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to translate complex technical and business concepts clearly for different audiences
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, design, QA, and customer-facing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and make transparent, defensible tradeoff decisions
  • Proficiency with Agile project management tooling (Jira, Azure DevOps, or equivalent)
  • Comfort operating in technically complex, data-intensive product environments with ambiguous or evolving requirements
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with data platforms such as Snowflake, Oracle, Tableau, or Sigma to independently query, manipulate, and extract product insights — without relying on a data analyst to do it for you.
  • Experience partnering with Sales and Customer Success to gather market signals and support go-to-market execution
  • High attention to detail and ability to balance competing demands from multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • CSPO, PSPO, or SAFe POPM certification (preferred, not required)
  • Ability to work with SQL, Snowflake, Sigma, or Tableau for self-service product analytics
  • Experience defining and tracking product KPIs, usage metrics, and feature adoption indicators
  • A structured thinker who is undaunted by messy problems and committed to uncovering root causes and scalable solutions.
  • AI-Augmented Execution: Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT) as active accelerators across product ownership work — drafting and refining user stories, synthesizing customer research, vibe coding prototypes, and collaborating with engineering in agentic development workflows. We expect our POs to be practitioners, not observers, when it comes to AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Exposure to North American power markets, ISO/RTO operations, or energy data products is a strong differentiator
  • Background in financial data, real-time market analytics, or complex data products in regulated industries is relevant

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain a prioritized, well-groomed product backlog that reflects customer value, business strategy, and engineering capacity. Make active, defensible prioritization decisions every sprint — and be able to explain them.
  • Write clear, actionable user stories with acceptance criteria that engineering can implement and QA can test. Decompose epics into sprint-ready work without losing the business context behind each request.
  • Drive sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. Keep the team focused, unblocked, and aligned on what matters most. Serve as the product decision-maker within the Agile team.
  • Serve as the bridge between Product Management, Engineering, Customer Success, Sales, and customers. Communicate tradeoffs clearly, facilitate productive disagreements, and ensure stakeholders understand what is being built and why.
  • Use product analytics, customer usage data, support trends, and market feedback to inform prioritization. Define and track success metrics for features and releases. Challenge assumptions with evidence.
  • Partner with UX designers, data engineers, QA, and platform teams to ensure solutions are feasible, well-designed, and ready for delivery. Identify and resolve cross-team dependencies before they become blockers.
  • Coordinate releases with engineering and communicate release readiness to Customer Success and Sales. Ensure launches are documented, clearly communicated, and tied to measurable outcomes.
  • Track adoption of shipped features, surface usage data to the team, and close the feedback loop with customers. Delivery is not the finish line — adoption and value realization are.
  • Develop working knowledge of North American power markets, ISO/RTO structure, energy pricing, and how Yes Energy’s customers use our data. You do not need to arrive as an expert — but you need to be willing to become one.
