About The Position

CloudLinux is hiring a Product Owner to lead its small, senior, fully remote innovation team, which develops new product concepts across CloudLinux and Imunify. The team takes concepts from idea to a working MVP tested by customers, then transfers proven products to an established product line and moves on to new concepts. Ideas come from customer conversations, industry events, telemetry across more than 80,000 servers, and the CPO’s strategy. The goal is to find evidence that customers will pay for a concept within a quarter, using AI coding agents throughout the process. This is a hands-on leadership role, split roughly equally between discovery and leadership and building. The Product Owner is accountable for the idea pipeline, the rigor and speed of testing, and evidence-based go/no-go recommendations. They will lead and develop the team while also building credible prototypes, reviewing designs and code, and maintaining a technical point of view. The role reports to the CPO and works with the architecture group and product teams so successful MVPs can be adopted without a rewrite. The first 90 days include assessing the team and concepts in flight, meeting with sales, support, and hosting customers, taking ownership of the concept pipeline and weekly status, publishing success criteria for active concepts, shipping a prototype or demo, and presenting a ranked portfolio of bets for the next two quarters with a customer-evidence-backed recommendation and staffing plan.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer and at least 2 years leading a small team, with people responsibility, building new products in a product company or startup.
  • A track record of taking at least one product from concept to its first paying customers and stopping at least one product that did not work.
  • Strong Linux proficiency at software-engineer level; ability to build and review code in a modern language such as Python, Go, or TypeScript, and debug live systems on the box.
  • Practical product discovery skills, including customer interviews, assumption mapping, pricing experiments, and independently interpreting usage and conversion data.
  • Experience quickly mastering a complex technical domain and making credible architectural decisions in it.
  • Demonstrated people leadership, including 1:1s, performance conversations, hiring, and developing engineers.
  • Experience working in an agentic or AI-assisted development workflow.
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Availability to work EU hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the web hosting ecosystem, including cPanel/WHM, Plesk, DirectAdmin, or running infrastructure for a hosting provider.
  • Background in security products such as runtime protection, web application firewalls, malware detection, vulnerability management, or patching.
  • Experience with freemium or product-led growth models and self-serve billing.
  • Familiarity with Node.js or Python runtimes and their package ecosystems.
  • Comfort presenting to customers and at industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the pipeline of product concepts by capturing, sizing, and ranking ideas, documenting assumptions, and keeping the backlog visible to the CPO and leadership.
  • Take funded concepts to working MVPs on a fixed timebox, typically one quarter, with a named customer or design partner testing each MVP.
  • Define success criteria up front and report on usage, conversion, willingness to pay, and support load using real data.
  • Make honest go/no-go recommendations; transfer proven products to a product line with a written runbook and roadmap, and document lessons from concepts that do not succeed.
  • Report status and risks to the CPO weekly, ensuring every item has an owner and due date.
  • Select the fastest credible build approach for each concept, making buy, borrow, open-source, or custom-build trade-offs explicit.
  • Build prototypes and demo stands when that is the quickest route to evidence; review designs and code for team deliverables.
  • Ensure MVPs are production-worthy for real customer servers, including packaging, safe rollout, rollback, and observability from the first release.
  • Work with the architecture group and product teams to enable successful MVP adoption without a rewrite.
  • Lead and develop a small distributed team through 1:1s, goal setting, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Hire engineers by defining profiles, conducting technical interviews, onboarding, and mentoring.
  • Establish working agreements for fast asynchronous work, including written decisions, public-by-default communication, and demos in place of status meetings.
  • Model and coach effective use of AI coding agents, including prompt specificity, review of generated code, context provision, iteration, error recovery, and end-to-end task completion.
  • Use coding agents to build prototypes, generate test corpora, and draft customer-facing material.
  • Within the first 30 days, meet individually with every team member, assess team strengths and gaps in writing, review concepts in flight and their evidence, and meet with sales, support, and at least three hosting customers.
  • Within the first 60 days, own the concept pipeline and weekly status, publish success criteria for every active concept, and ship at least one prototype or demo personally.
  • Within the first 90 days, present a CPO-agreed ranked portfolio of bets for the next two quarters, including an evidence-backed go/no-go recommendation and a staffing recommendation.
