About The Position

The Product Owner for the Digital Portal is accountable for end‑to‑end ownership of our Digital Portal that support Direct Consumers and Agents, and servicing across Hiscox’s Direct products. This role is a senior, business‑facing product leader who translates firm strategy and operational priorities into a clear, actionable product roadmap that delivers measurable business outcomes. The Product Owner acts as the single point of accountability for product vision, value delivery, and prioritization—working closely with marketing, direct, partnerships, operations, finance, claims, technology, and external partners to modernize workflows, reduce operational friction, and enable scalable growth across the Direct portfolio. This role is critical in ensuring technology investments support underwriting discipline, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and differentiated customer and agent experiences.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in insurance, product ownership, business analysis, or operations, with meaningful exposure to direct-to-consumer and partnership lines or underwriting portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance operations, underwriting workflows, regulatory considerations, and policy administration ecosystems.
  • Proven experience operating in an agile delivery environment with ownership of product roadmaps, backlogs, and prioritization decisions.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills, grounded in data and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the product vision and multi‑year roadmap for the Digital Portal, aligning initiatives to enterprise strategy, portfolio priorities, and operational objectives.
  • Define clear product outcomes and success measures, ensuring initiatives deliver tangible value such as reduced cycle time, improved data quality, enhanced transparency, and scalable operational performance.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to modernize legacy processes, increase automation, and reduce manual work and exception handling across the value stream.
  • Serve as the primary business owner for product decisions, balancing competing priorities across marketing, direct, partnerships, operations, finance, claims, compliance, and technology.
  • Act as a trusted partner to senior business leaders, translating business strategy, regulatory requirements, and market needs into prioritized product initiatives.
  • Provide clear, well‑reasoned recommendations and trade‑off decisions when capacity, funding, or timelines require prioritization choices—grounded in data, value, and risk.
  • Own and continuously refine the product backlog, ensuring user stories are well‑defined with clear business context, acceptance criteria, and prioritization aligned to outcomes.
  • Partner closely with delivery teams to ensure work is sequenced to maximize value delivery, manage dependencies, and minimize disruption to live operations.
  • Represent the Digital Portal domain in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, and PI planning.
  • Actively manage cross‑team and cross‑platform dependencies, including vendor and third‑party integrations.
  • Collaborate with marketing, direct, and partnerships teams to understand end‑to‑end workflows, pain points, controls, and regulatory considerations.
  • Translate complex insurance and operational processes into scalable product capabilities that support growth while maintaining strong governance and risk management.
  • Partner with change, training, and readiness teams to drive adoption and embed new capabilities into standard operating practices.
  • Lead UAT planning and provide oversight to Business Analysts’ execution in partnership with business and technology teams, ensuring solutions meet business intent and readiness standards.
  • Own post‑launch performance monitoring, using KPIs and operational metrics to assess adoption, effectiveness, and realized value.
  • Use insights and performance data to inform continuous improvement and future roadmap decisions.
