About The Position

About SafelyYou SafelyYou’s passionate mission is to empower safer, more person-centered care across senior living through world-leading AI, industry-changing hardware, and remote expert clinicians, significantly improving outcomes for residents while increasing peace of mind for families and reducing costs for communities. Originating in 2015 as the doctoral research of CEO George Netscher—and inspired by his own family's experience with Alzheimer's disease—SafelyYou was spun out of UC Berkeley’s Artificial Intelligence Research Lab, one of the top five AI research groups in the world. And today, our company is solving critical challenges in senior living, from resident falls and ER visits to staffing concerns, length of stay, and NOI. All helping ensure that communities can focus on improved care for residents while still reaching their financial goals. SafelyYou is one of five most innovative fall technologies referenced in the Senate Falls Report (2019), a winner of the McKnight’s Tech Partner of the Year, and has been named to Fortune’s Impact 20 list, which recognizes companies making people’s lives better through innovation. Your Role at SafelyYou As a Product Owner at SafelyYou, you will be the primary bridge between product strategy and engineering execution. You will own the day-to-day delivery cadence for your engineering team - translating validated product direction into clear, actionable work for your squad. Your ability to break down complex requirements, communicate precisely with engineers, and keep delivery on track will be central to our ability to ship high-quality features at pace.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of professional experience as a Product Owner.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, business, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or in a similar execution-focused delivery role within a software R&D team.
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and hands-on experience running sprint ceremonies.
  • Strong ability to write precise, unambiguous user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can act on immediately.
  • Demonstrated skill in breaking down large product initiatives into well-sequenced, sprint-ready backlog items.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate between the language of product strategy and engineering implementation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within or alongside a healthcare or safety-focused technology product is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain a well-groomed, prioritized backlog for the Case & Notifications teams, ensuring stories are always ready for the next sprint.
  • Write clear, detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and edge-case definitions that give engineers everything they need to build with confidence.
  • Partner with engineering leads to sequence work in a way that manages dependencies, reduces risk, and maximises delivery throughput.
  • Track sprint-level commitments, flag blockers early, and drive resolution so that sprint goals are consistently met.
  • Receive prioritized product direction from Product Management and translate it into granular, implementation-ready requirements.
  • Facilitate regular refinement sessions with engineers to surface technical questions and close ambiguity before work begins.
  • Maintain traceability between high-level product goals and individual tickets so the team always understands the "why" behind each piece of work.
  • Document decisions, assumptions, and out-of-scope items to prevent scope creep and reduce rework.
  • Facilitate and participate in sprint ceremonies - planning, daily stand-up, review, and retrospective - ensuring they are efficient and outcome-focused.
  • Monitor sprint health in real time and proactively manage scope adjustments when unexpected complexity or blockers arise.
  • Ensure shipped features meet the acceptance criteria defined at story creation.
  • Contribute to release planning by providing accurate delivery forecasts and communicating risks to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact between the Case & Notifications teams and adjacent teams - including Customer Success, Operations, and other teams.
  • Attend and contribute to broader product planning forums, representing the execution perspective of the squad.
  • Surface delivery constraints and technical debt implications to Product Management so that strategic prioritisation decisions are made with full context.
  • Support go-to-market readiness by collaborating with Customer Success and Marketing on release notes, training materials, and rollout sequencing.
  • Define and track squad-level delivery metrics (cycle time, defect escape rate, sprint goal achievement) and use them to drive targeted improvements.
  • Champion a culture of quality within the team by advocating for adequate testing, well-defined acceptance criteria, and clean technical practices.
  • Facilitate retrospectives that yield concrete, measurable process improvements sprint over sprint.
  • Monitor post-release behaviour of Case & Notifications features alongside Customer Success and feed actionable insights back to the squad.
