About The Position

We are seeking a Product Owner – Accounting to join our Product Team in Montreal, QC. This is a one-year contract position to provide maternity leave coverage. Reporting to the Director of Product Management, you will own the development and continuous evolution of Jesta's Accounting solution. Working closely with Product Management, Development, QA, Professional Services, and customers, you will translate business needs into scalable, compliant financial capabilities while ensuring the successful delivery of enhancements and the continuity of the Accounting product roadmap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, Functional Consultant, or similar role in enterprise software.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and the software development lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with Accounting ERP systems, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Cost Accounting, or Project Accounting.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles, financial controls, month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases (Oracle experience is preferred).
  • Knowledge of ERP integrations with merchandising, warehouse, procurement, and external financial systems.
  • Experience preparing business requirements, functional specifications, process documentation, and user stories.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
  • Understanding of enterprise system integrations, data mapping, and information exchange between ERP, Accounting, Merchandising, Warehouse Management, and other business applications.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding financial accuracy, controls, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership, ownership, and accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent Agile certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience working within Retail Planning is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting ERP modernization or cloud migration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with financial compliance requirements, audit processes, and regulatory reporting.
  • Knowledge of retail financial operations, including inventory accounting, landed cost, purchasing, and sales reconciliation.
  • Experience with reporting and analytics platforms such as Power BI or Oracle BI is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the Accounting product backlog, ensuring alignment with business objectives, customer needs, and technical feasibility. Continuously prioritize and refine backlog items to maximize business value.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Accounting, Product Management, Engineering, QA, Professional Services, and Customer Success to define and deliver innovative financial solutions.
  • Gather, analyze, and document business requirements, translating them into clear epics, user stories, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring the development team has a clear understanding of priorities.
  • Develop functional specifications that support financial operations while maintaining compliance with accounting principles and enterprise architecture.
  • Collaborate closely with development teams throughout implementation, providing ongoing clarification, answering business questions, and removing functional roadblocks.
  • Partner with QA teams to define comprehensive test scenarios, validate financial calculations, and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure solution quality.
  • Monitor product performance after release by reviewing customer feedback, support issues, product metrics, and enhancement requests to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure seamless integration between Accounting and other enterprise modules, including Merchandising, Planning, Procurement, Warehouse Management (WMS), Point of Sale (POS), Supply & Demand, and external financial applications.
  • Support product roadmap planning by identifying opportunities to modernize financial processes, improve automation, and leverage emerging technologies, including AI-driven financial capabilities.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, accounting standards, financial technologies, and retail ERP trends to influence long-term product strategy.
  • Support documentation, product demonstrations, customer workshops, and internal training initiatives to ensure successful adoption of new functionality.
