Product Manager, Software Factory

Vercel•San Francisco, CA
•$208,000 - $312,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Vercel is seeking a Product Manager to join their Product team, focusing on the new Software Factory product area. This role involves placing AI agents into various stages of the development loop, from issue triaging to code writing and verification, while retaining human oversight for critical decisions. The primary goal is to automate continuous software maintenance and improvement, addressing the bottleneck of human time and attention. The Product Manager will define how agents assist in bug fixing, feature implementation, performance enhancement, security issue mitigation, code quality improvement, and test coverage increase. The position reports to the Product Lead and is based in San Francisco, CA, with a hybrid work model. For those within commuting distance of Vercel offices (SF, NY, London, or Berlin), in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Those further away will work fully remotely. Specific location details can be obtained from the recruiting team.

Requirements

  • Worked on developer tooling products, ideally CI/CD, code review, developer productivity, or AI coding tools.
  • Deep hands-on experience with coding agents and a substantiated point of view on where they succeed and where they fail today.
  • Technical depth to reason about agent orchestration, evals, context management, and sandboxed execution.
  • Owned a platform area that other product teams build on, and set technical direction others adopted.
  • Experience with products whose output is probabilistic, including defining acceptance bars and measuring quality over time.
  • Experience working directly with design partners or Enterprise customers on adopting new engineering workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Worked on multi-agent systems or agent orchestrators.
  • Worked on evals or systematic measurement of AI output quality.
  • Worked on products adopted bottom-up by individual developers before spreading to teams.
  • Run or operated a large open-source project.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for Software Factory.
  • Define the workflow model — how work moves through classification, analysis, implementation, and review, and where the handoff back to a person belongs.
  • Own the trust and quality bar: evals, verification, retry behavior, and what the factory is permitted to touch without human approval.
  • Define how factories integrate with where engineering work already lives, including GitHub and Linear, and with agent harnesses such as Codex and Claude Code. And define new dedicated surfaces for how to interact with factory agents.
  • Shape the memory and context model that lets a factory accumulate real knowledge of a repository over time.
  • Work directly with design partners and Enterprise customers adopting factories against their own codebases.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package, including equity.
  • Inclusive Healthcare Package.
  • Learn and Grow - we provide mentorship and send you to events that help you build your network and skills.
  • Flexible Time Off.
  • Gear to do your role.
