Product Manager, Growth

Whatnot•Los Angeles, CA
•$240,000 - $344,000•Hybrid

About The Position

As a Product Manager on the Growth team, you will own the vision and long-term strategy for new seller growth: how sellers discover Whatnot, make their first sale, and build a lasting business. You’ll find where the biggest leverage sits across the seller lifecycle and set the bets to help us grow as many sellers as possible as large as possible.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of product management experience, including substantial time owning growth strategy for a consumer product or marketplace, from setting direction to delivering results.
  • A track record of building growth systems that compound. You can point to loops or platforms you designed that kept producing results long after launch.
  • Strong data and experimentation judgment: defining the right metrics, diagnosing funnels, sizing opportunities, and combining quantitative and qualitative insight to decide what matters.
  • Systems thinking. You understand how acquisition, activation, and retention interact, and you can tell the difference between a tactic that spikes a number and a change that compounds.
  • Sound judgment in ambiguity, making clear decisions with imperfect information and balancing speed, risk, and quality on multi-team initiatives.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority, aligning leaders and teams you don’t manage around a shared roadmap.
  • Clear, compelling communication, whether you’re framing strategy for executives or giving a team clarity on priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Startup founder or founding team experience
  • Experience growing the supply side of a consumer marketplace or two-sided platform
  • Experience designing referral, invite, or incentive systems

Responsibilities

  • Build the seller growth engine, not just features for it. Design referrals, invites, incentives, notifications, and reactivation as loops that reinforce each other, built on durable platforms rather than one-off campaigns.
  • Drive systemic unlocks first, then paper cuts. Each half, pick the few structural changes that shorten the path from wanting to sell to actually selling, and keep steadily clearing the friction that blocks new sellers today.
  • Own seller growth metrics and set the targets, including new seller activation, early retention, and cohort GMV. Build the scorecards the team uses to make tradeoffs, and hold the area accountable for outcomes, not output.
  • Set the experimentation strategy for your area. Decide which questions are worth testing, raise the bar on how tests are designed and read, and turn what you learn into lasting product changes and playbooks other teams can reuse.
  • Lead across team boundaries. Seller growth touches surfaces owned by many product teams. You’ll align them on shared goals, influence their roadmaps, and make sure seller growth needs are built into core platforms from the start.
  • Turn frontline insight into scalable product. Partner closely with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Marketing, Operations, and seller-facing teams to understand what successful new sellers do differently, and make it repeatable.
