About The Position

The American Medical Association (AMA) is seeking a Product Management Director I on their Center for Optimal Health Outcomes team. This is a hybrid position based in Chicago, IL, requiring three days a week in the office. The role is responsible for leading the development and oversight of a portfolio of COHO (Center for Optimal Health Outcomes) solutions that advance measurable health outcomes. This includes executing core product management activities throughout the product lifecycle, driving learning, integration, and managing pilots with partners to identify and deliver scalable technology solutions that improve healthcare outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Business Administration or a Clinical discipline.
  • 10+ years’ experience in healthcare IT/product management, inclusive of product portfolio management, interoperability, and successful technology integration.
  • Proven track record in leading pilots with vendors and integrating new healthcare technologies (RPM, wearables, digital health innovations).
  • Expertise in evidence-based solution integration, quality improvement, performance measurement, and vendor relationship management.
  • Deep knowledge of EHRs, clinical workflows, regulatory compliance, and quality measurement frameworks.
  • Proven ability to initiate, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to quickly secure the trust of business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage clinical discussions with health care professionals and develop clinical, or health care operations use cases.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or advanced training in Health Informatics preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience in people management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the development, refinement, and implementation of product life-cycle plans with focus on new products, expansion of current products, and determining products to be sunset.
  • Oversee the development, management, and communication of the product roadmaps for product line(s); establish and monitor KPIs to assess the impact of COHO products and support continuous product improvement.
  • Responsible for market analysis, opportunity identification, business case development, product strategy development, and go-to-market planning, ensuring solutions align with organizational goals to improve health outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with COHO stakeholders to prioritize new products, features and enhancements, ensuring timely and high-impact releases.
  • Direct cross-functional teams in the design, evaluation, and enhancement of COHO solutions aimed to improve outcomes for all.
  • Lead end-to-end management activities including sprint/release planning, backlog grooming, defining acceptance criteria, and managing user acceptance testing for COHO products.
  • Document product strategy and ensure backlogs are updated and managed; collect and synthesize user, partner, and market feedback to continuously iterate and improve products and provide insight on user needs.
  • Lead the ideation, integration and execution of pilots with partners, including emerging technologies (e.g., Remote Patient Monitoring, wearables, digital therapeutics), to evaluate the impact on care delivery, patient engagement, and clinical quality.
  • Collaborate with appropriate internal IT stakeholders and external partners to develop, test, refine, and help determine the best technical integration methods for COHO products into partner platforms and ensure internal IT security compliance.
  • Ensure pilot findings are translated into actionable product enhancements and broader organizational learning.
  • Manage the transition of successful partner pilots into scalable solutions, ensuring seamless adoption, interoperability, and alignment with national and organizational quality standards.
  • Foster and support evidence-based practices, ensuring compliance with advanced technical standards (HL7, FHIR, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, driving joint accountability for the realization of improved outcomes.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide management oversight for staff. Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating employee performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Responsible for developing staff knowledge and skills to support career development.
