About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the ownership and continuous improvement of data center liquid cooling infrastructure products. This role involves supporting AWS data centers' liquid cooling infrastructure, working with product development teams, and serving as the global engineering resource for liquid cooling AWS infrastructure. The position requires hands-on mechanical and manufacturing experience in liquid cooling products, leadership in cooling product design, understanding of cooling principles, and knowledge of quality manufacturing practices. The engineer will also evaluate detailed equipment specifications, piping systems, pumping systems, and air handler systems, and assess the implications of design changes. Intermittent travel, around 30%, is expected, potentially including international travel. This position can be based in Herndon, VA; Austin, TX; Seattle, WA; or Columbus, OH.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

Responsibilities

  • Possess strong engineering judgment and provide recommendations despite uncertainty.
  • Be detail and data oriented.
  • Have experience engineering air handling, piping and/or pumping products.
  • Review, update, and approve equipment submittals.
  • Work with global liquid cooling equipment suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., reliability, operations, design, compliance).
  • Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographic zones.
  • Understand and explain complex systems in clear and concise language.
  • Support Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review for both mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Listen to the voice of the customer to understand potential improvements for product reliability or availability.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to design product improvements and oversee root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to the global body of knowledge and drive a cycle of continuous improvement at a global scale.
